Exactly he needs to relax, especially since he's not from the West Coast and has never even been to San Jose or the Bay Area.
I don't knock either one, but IME I find something comforting in their common banality. Neither is exciting; both are pleasant. I find neither particularly objectionable. My daughter lives in San Jose; I visit her a couple of times a year. She says that if Xanax was a city, it would be San Jose.
