Pittsburgh breezes vs. Charlotte as the much more established, more diverse, more cultured, more urban and more interesting city. It also is one of the more interesting cities topographically and architecture-wise, given Pittsburgh's colonial roots. That doesn't mean Charlotte is a bad city and certainly it appeals to a particular demographic that likes newer, shiny Sunbelt-type sprawling cities.
This is a biased post. I'm an enormous Pittsburgh Stan, but it doesn't breeze anything over Charlotte (huge Charlotte guy, too). Both feel like big cities; any difference in feel is negligible...

Dining is a lot closer than you seem to believe, and I wouldn't be so quick to give ethnic food to Pittsburgh, either. Charlotte has a much wider range of ethnicities, Pittsburgh's only lead here would be in the traditional European fare...

Progressive culture, again, LOL to your response, this is negligible...

Nightlife again, Charlotte has the more diverse nightlife scene...

I'm hardly biased. I'm a CLEVELAND native and I hate the Steelers. It's just my take. I just don't feel Charlotte has the cultural or architectural gravitas as Pittsburgh ... not by a long shot. It's a young city and, if you carefully read my post, I specifically said that this doesn't make Charlotte a "bad" city. They are very different and many people prefer Charlotte. It's just not what I -- nor a lot of professional analysts who work for a living discerning urban attributes -- prefer.
