Corpus Christi has had four people shot the last two days, with two dead. It is now at 12 or 13.

Yeah 69 - 95 was a 1,000 bodies a year run but the deadliest years on record was 1990 - 1991"

That's like Chicago avg 500 plus murders for a city of 3 million... And I don't think NYC seen 500 bodies since the mid 2000's

NYC at it's deadliest was in the early 90's when it hit over 2,000 + homicides for the first time ever.

To rank NYC properly, you would have to pull up the historical homicides for each borough and that'll give you a better idea of how the era was.
Chicago doesn't have 3 million people. It's has barely 2.7 million. Chicago in the 2010s has had an average of 516 a year. And that's with the spike in 2016. Without the spike, Chicago averages in the 400s. Chicago is also on schedule for less than 500 this year as homicides are down 12%. That would put homicides at 493 for 2019 if the city remains @ 12% from 2018.

I talk with my parents and they seem to forget how terrible the 80s and 90s were. 1000+ in New York, 700-900 in Chicago. The difference now is social media and the continuous media coverage.

My mom is originally from right outside of NYC. Much of dad's side had moved from NYC to LA in the 1930s. My parents were married in New Jersey, right outside of NYC in the 1970s. I didn't know until a few years ago but my dad basically refused to go into Manhattan back then when they'd visit my mom's parents LOL wimp, but still sign of the times back then and its reputation.

Watching movies from the 70s and early 80s the Bronx and Harlem looked like third world countries. It’s amazing the turn around in just a few decades.

Historically Chicago has been a city of 3 million people.

1930 - 1995, Chicago pop was at 3 million,In the 00's & 10's population dropped but the gang membership still was through the roof.

This times a million. Crime is absolutely one thing that is much better in 2019 compared to 20-40 years ago. There is no data available that argues against this fact.

How ubiquitous media is right now has played a huge role in people not understanding this. Here's a look at how bad things were:

Citywide, during the first six months of 1992, the 7,285 shootings was an increase of 8 percent over last year.
So in 1992, that was on track for over 14,500 shootings in a single year. By comparison, there were just under 2400 shooting incidents in Chicago last year - so about 6 times fewer than 1992.
