But that's a good thing to say the least.

If we're going by decade, than Chicago been the most violent big city in the 2010's,

The 2000's was New Orleans and we already know every city was bloody in the 80's & 90's.

S hopefully New York can keep this going into the 2020's
I believe it's more middle of the pack. As far as violent crime rates the past 10 years, Chicago is fairly down the list. Other than the blips of 2016 and 2017 its violent crime rate has gone down by more than 50%. The rankings for violent crime rate:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_o..._by_crime_rate

St Louis
Detroit
Memphis
Milwaukee
Baltimore
Oakland
Kansas City
Cleveland
Indianapolis
Washington DC
Atlanta
Buffalo
Nashville
Minneapolis
Philadelphia
Miami
Houston
Albuquerque
New Orleans
Orlando
Cincinnati
Las Vegas
Chicago
San Francisco
Boston
Dallas
Denver
Los Angeles
Seattle
Phoenix
New York
Austin
San Jose

As far as murder rates, the rates of St Louis, Detroit, Memphis, Baltimore and New Orleans always tend to be two to three times higher. Chicago is more in line with Washington DC and Philadelphia the past 8

Chicago 20
Jacksonville 12
Tampa 3
St Pete 3

Does anyone have the number for Detroit? I feel like not all murders make the news b/c I have only seen 3 or so reported all year, and I know there’s no way that’s the case

Agreed, the stats don't lie.

Also, funny how DC is actually one of the most violent big cities in the nation, yet its crickets from the media, yet Chicago (and sometimes Philadelphia) are portrayed as war zones, which could not be further from the truth.

Pittsburgh is now at 3 homicides for the year after a recent fire resulting in a death in our city's Carrick neighborhood was ruled arson. In PA (not sure if this is universal), a death resulting from arson is considered a homicide.

Going by the 2017 population estimate of 302,407 for the city proper, then this is a current rate of about 1.0/100,000.

Boston’s inner city areas are inconsequential to the rest of the city, The gang activity affects largely teens and early 20s and it doesn’t hurt the cities national average and the gang prone areas are bunched together away from tourist areas in the city-I doubt will de a significant decline in Boston homicide totals , maybe ever.
