Dc and New York has the largest concentration of black millionaires in America, what is the culture of being rich and black in DC and how does it differentiate from being rich and black in NY, like schools, social circles, jobs, etc
Well this got off topic.... I am going to put in my two cents for the original question.
DC is a political town, so wealthy (black and white) centers around political connections.
NYC is a big business town with some of the oldest elite social circles that are very hard to crack.
Black people and minorities in general have a lot more upward mobility in cities like DC or Atlanta vs New York. New Yorks upper society is very closed off and unwelcoming to outsiders for a number of reasons. Our president was pretty much shunned from wealthy New York society.
I also think a lot of people are giving Atlanta a little too much credit. I don't possibly see how an argument can be made for Atlanta having more millionaires or black millionaires than DC and especially NYC.

My educated guess would be that Atlanta would probably slot in close to or right after Seattle on the first list. Even if so it would take close to a 70-90% black millionaire percentage share to out do "numerically" either DC or NYC by metro area. By percentage of total Black millionaires in their metro compared to other races however, I could see Atlanta being #1.
The former link was a measure of millionaires per large metro area, that is a more accurate representation of major cities. This link goes as small as 50k residents, so obviously a lot of large cities will be left out due to the variance in incomes (New York, Chicago, Boston, Philadelphia, etc.)
NYC, I would still believe to be head and shoulders above both, probably even if you combined the two. Especially considering both Jay-Z and Diddy call New York home.
Who cares about famous people? That's all hype. Lets get real here, a guy who owns a warehouse business in Queens is worth more than 21 Savage...
And most reality TV stars, except the Kardashians, don't even make that much $$. Probably just as much as a director at Google/JP Morgan Chase/HSBC.
If you're a reality TV star on one of those smaller cable networks, AND your show is doing decent (mid level show), you are probably making as much as an MTA train engineer.

That is why Atlanta seems to have an over-hyped image. Reality shows, real housewives, etc. most of them are by no means rich or millionaires...
Not to say true black millionaires don't exist in Atlanta, but I think people are confusing upper middle class / reality TV with true millionaires, in which NYC and DC I would strongly wager have more of in the black community.

I agree. Not to mention, especially in DC, black people in NW who cashed in on their homes in the past 10 years.

Ok, that’s all fine and well. But can someone give me a source of the list of black millionaires by metro areas or are we debating middle class statistics?
Not an attack on you or your comment, but this thread is dumb. The OP doesn’t even have the sources to back up his own claim.
NYC and DC have more black millionaires than anywhere else in America. Ok. Where is the source for this claim?
Otherwise, let’s debate what we DO know and that is NYC and DC have more black households earning $200,000 than anywhere else.

To answer your question, not me. But what millionaires do you know that I know that ARENT famous?
And furthermore the fact that you’re entertaining a thread with NO source to back up a claim makes you look ridiculous. This is exactly why folks with sense hate the media. No fact checking, just running with whatever is presented.
