Compared to other East Coast cities Baltimore is fairly cheap. Not compared to Midwest cities though.

Car insurance is also ridiculously high in cities like Baltimore because they have such high uninsured rates. Those with insurance have to pay an even higher premium because fault doesn't matter if the other driver doesn't have insurance.

How is Baltimore over Indy in terms of employment? You looked at the unemployment numbers lately? Plenty of work to find in Indy especially blue collar. Don't forget if you work in Baltimore your check is deducted by over 7% in income taxes if you make at least 14/hr FT.

Cost of living? LOL. A 1BR apt in Baltimore's worst hoods costs the same as a 1BR in Indy's decent hoods.

Weather, walkability and transit are the only things Baltimore's got, and if you got a car the last two aren't important.

Indy’s is about 20% and Baltimore’s is 24%.... Indy doesn’t win bragging rights in this category. White poverty rate for both is around 13%.

Apart from it's ridiculously high property tax, compared to the DC, Boston & NYC, yes it is cheap. The average 1-bed room in Baltimore is 50% cheaper than the average in DC. On that note Philly is relatively affordable as well.

That being said... Baltimore is getting seas of high-end apartment residential apartments which is driving the prices up of anything within 1 mile of the core. Once Port Covington & Penn Station redevelopments starts coming online, it's game over... prices are going to go through the roof so it's glory days of being the affordable big NE city are limited.

Winning bragging rights wasn't the point. I was merely pointing out a fact. There several CD darling cities that have a higher poverty rate.

I will be in Baltimore in September for a convention. I will have to take a look at the new apartments going in.

Baltimore is one of my favorite cities. I am glad things are picking up. It will be interesting to see if they can control the crime. It is nice to see the urban preservation.

If it wouldn't be for the horrible crime, plight and bad reputation, Baltimore would be a top destination for anyone who enjoys city living. Baltimore looks great, has a great downtown, a (real) waterfront and excellent location with easy access to other class destinations. 2 pro sports teams and is inside an affluent state.
Talking about potential. Such a shame it cannot get itself together.
