Crazy to think Midtown Atlanta is probably bigger than Uptown Charlotte. It's definitely more populated without a doubt.

Looking at these aerials, it's a beast in it's own right.

The poll results are a tad bit perplexing IMO...

How is this even close?

Uptown 2019 had a population of 23,000 in 2 sq. Miles. And around 116k workers & around 6,000 hotel rooms.

In 2014, midtown had 14,180 people & a workforce of 65k which I think was for 1 sq. Mile?

Atlanta folks will have to provide better up to date statistics for ATL. Almost every source I see shows midtown having a smaller population and generally the same, slightly less or slightly more density. But I don’t know midtown boundaries or the best sources for ATL

Uptown is a very compact skyline

Even then. Uptown has a nice silhouette, awesome signature towers and a nice core of a skyline.

Where or how do they calculate that population for Uptown Charlotte? Uptown Charlotte doesn't have that many residential highrises/midrises for the population to be that high. Most of it is office.

Also, since 2014, Midtown Atlanta has added 7030 residential units so we can probably assume at least 10k people have been added since then.

What do you mean how they calculate it?

By the number of people living within I277, aka Uptown, 2 sq. Miles.

They’re not including any adjacent areas when they state 23,000.

That’s why I Generally defer to locals for their stats. Because locals know. Yes, uptown does have over 20,000 people. Which is slightly impressive considering a huge portion of that 2 sq. Miles is a graveyard. And uptown is more than office towers. Obviously, with 23k people.

This link from the alliance, says with over 30k new resident arrivals in the last decade. Midtown as a whole has 41k people in just under 4 sq Miles.

In other places where 13-14k is stated as the residential population it is referring to the core (midtown mile area) which is just like 1 sq mile.

Wiki actually distinguished between them for us:

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Midtown_Atlanta

On top of that, you have SCAD and GA tech in midtown, not sure about SCAD... but GT has 16k undergrads who aren’t residents formally, but function that way since they live there.

All of these people contribute to midtown residential skyline buildings if that’s what we are trying to figure out?

Wow, incredible pictures!

Atlanta's midtown is pretty impressive, and becoming so much more dense.

BTW, do you happen to know (or anyone know) if Opus Place in midtown Atlanta is not happening?
That tower is so nice looking and tall--but the site has been sitting there with a mound of dirt moved for about the past 3-4 years....

(at least last time I passed the site in early April)

I personally have no special info on that, they’ve sold quite a bit of units already though. I hope it’s up by the end of 2020
