The Minnesota largest city and capitol vs. the Wisconsin ones. Madison and Milwaukee are close enough for a quick jaunt between the two.
The usual:
Quality of live
Things to do
Transportation
Economy
Recreation
Education
Sports
Night Life
Outlook
etc.

Hard comparison because you are really comparing a major MSA with two incorporated cities vs. two distinct MSAs. Madison is close-ish, but still 1 hr 15 min away.

I would say Milwaukee wins some, and MSP wins some. For me, though, MSP is somewhat isolated. I like Chicago's proximity to Milwaukee, and Lake Michigan...that's a big win, in my book.

I've never been to Wisconsin, but isn't Madison like 2hrs from Milwaukee? Doesn't seem like a fair comparison.

Downtown Madison to downtown Milwaukee 79 miles...the suburbs are much closer. It takes a little over an hour to get from downtown to downtown.

This doesn't really make sense. Yes, it's true that Madison and Milwaukee are close, but the average Milwaukeean will probably not visit Madison more than a few times a year. Most maybe once, if that.

Milwaukee and Madison are 2 separate metros. Their over one hour downtown-to-downtown distance is much too far to be included in the same metro. A far comparison between Milwaukee/Madison vs. MSP can't be made. It's apples to oranges.

No it isn't, apples to oranges. The MSP metro is spread out, far and wide, and some locations in the MSP MSA, are a similar distance from Madison to Milwaukee. In fact, Madison's MSP and Milwaukee's MSP aren't that far apart.
