You're purposely not understanding my point. People don't have to leave Milwaukee for somewhere else, the the many, many people from Chicago, who come to Milwaukee on the week-ends, don't have to have to leave, either. Both cities enjoy what the other cities have to offer...plain and simple. You can keep pushing back, but people in Milwaukee and Chicago, both enjoy what the other city has to offer. Milwaukee has a MULTITUDE of things to do...not lacking in that department, at all.
How about we put it this way:
Proximity to Chicago doesn’t make Milwaukee as a city any better, but it is a benefit of living in Milwaukee that is not available if you live in Cleveland. Having a city like Chicago within an easy day trip distance is certainly a big plus — no matter how much Cleveland posters try to downplay it. And you don’t even have to drive.
Not good to enjoy what a nearby city has to offer? OK, but I doubt many would share your opinion.
It isnt the city, it isnt what op asked, and its 100 miles away. Almost nobody travels 100 miles per day, even on weekends. Especially in wintery cities.

90 miles from downtown to downtown. Most people, don't live in the downtown. I used to go to Chicago for lunch and shopping, then back home for dinner. You can deny, deny, deny, but it happens...more often than you would think.
I share his opinion and it's a valid one: if your city has to piggyback off its proximity to a great city, then how great is your city?
Milwaukee can stand alone. It's a BONUS, that Chicago is within going to lunch distance. If you could go to Chicago for lunch, you would use that, too.

IMO it's really pathetic and kinda offensive to Milwaukee you can't even say anything good about Milwaukee, just Chicago. My friends from Milwaukee and the friends of my Wisconsite gf don't care about Chicago at all.
Actually I'm gonna be in Milwaukee next weekend. I'll give you a list of reasons why I prefer Milwaukee to Chicago if you want.
Greyhound bus, or the Hiawatha Amtrak ride, or just a drive--very easy to do from Milwaukee to Chicago. The perfect day trip, if you prefer to avoid a hotel room. Going somewhere that's only half-an-hour away isn't much of a trip, but 90 miles is perfect, esp when crossing over the state line..
What can you do in Chicago that you just cannot do in Milwaukee? Serious question.
Me, I love downtown, the skyscrapers, and the river. I take photos. I can do that in Milwaukee, as well, and I do, but Milwaukee's downtown doesn't compare to that of Chicago. I love Milwaukee's downtown, though, as well.
