Rocky Mountain cities never had great appeal because though you have great elevation to the west its treeless prairie to the east for a far as the eye can see nor any large bodies of water. Having been to the West coast, all geography is hard to beat with ocean front, big lakes, and mountains. Atlanta, Austin, Nashville in the south are scenic and Austin enhanced its beauty with its trail of lakes on its west side.
Obviously personal preference, but I wouldn't. I like the towering snow-capped mountains that loom directly over SLC. Or even the view from the mountains down into SLC.
I've been to Boise in both the summer and winter and maybe my expectations were too high, but it underwhelmed.
Wow, this is a huge poll. That being said, Seattle is my #1 with my other votes being Anchorage, Denver, Pittsburgh, and Nashville. I'm very partial to middle and east Tennessee scenery. I was a little disappointed that Birmingham wasn't on the list.
I don't know, tough choice between Irving, Arlington, Dallas, Fort Worth, Plano, and Garland, Texas. Can't answer the question of "which city is surrounded by the most natural beauty?" when they're all surrounded by each other.
Ignoring cities on the ocean or harbors, etc., we have Denver, Atlanta, and Pittsburgh. I can sort of go along with Denver out of those three but there are better ones than that. I think SLC would certainly rival Denver. Among SW desert cities, Albuquerque would win hands down.
