Hi guys, using the NYT Map, Facebook Data and Seat Booking Sites.. I have compiled a general overall state by state breakdown of most popular MLB Teams by MOST US States. Enjoy!
Washington
1. Mariners: 76.9%
2. Giants: 6.2%
3. Red Sox: 3.7%
California
1. Dodgers: 46.3%
2. Giants: 22.8%
3. Angels: 10.4%
Notables to Mention Florida: No real allegiance to any Baseball team. Rhode Island: Small, Italian Yankee fanbase that was a stronghold in the 50s-60s. Has been shrinking since, but still strong around Providence. Braves: Conquer, GA, MS, AL, SC, NC, TN to have the lead in the most states (6). Yankees: 2/3 of the States on here have Yankee representation in top 3 Red Sox: 1/3 of the states on here have ox representation in top 3 Yankee/Red Sox Line: CT has gained a few more Sox fans since 2004, but Yankees still hold a stronger lead over the state. Giants: Hold a higher % outside their home state (NV, OR) than in it (CA). California: With 5 states calling CA Home, the Dodgers, Giants and Angels hold the top 3 in the state.

I'm really surprised to see the Cards performing that well in TN. I guess that's spillover in Memphis. They're a complete afterthought here in northeast TN. It's Braves, Reds, and maybe one of the big market teams here.
Some of the states we're omitted, and here are my opinions on them.
I'd imagine that Kentucky is mainly Reds country, with a side of Braves and Cardinals fans. West Virginia meanwhile would be a mix of Reds and Pirates, with some Nationals/Orioles fans in the eastern panhandle and even a few Braves/Indians fans as well. Oklahoma would lead Rangers in OKC and Royals in Tulsa, with a few Rockies fans in the panhandle. Arkansas would probably be Rangers, followed by Cardinals and Braves, with the Royals a distant fourth. New Mexico would most likely be a pretty even mix of Rockies, Diamondbacks, and Rangers fans. The Dakotas are predominantly Twins territory, with a few Cubs and Royals fans, but not too many. Nebraska would be Royals followed by Twins and Rockies, with the Royals predominant in Omaha and Lincoln, especially since Omaha is home to the Royals AAA affiliate. Wyoming is mostly Rockies territory, with a small amount of Mariners/Giants fans. Montana is mostly Mariners in the western half, with some Rockies and even a few Twins fans in the eastern portion.

It is definitely Western Tennessee. Always thought that was Cards country and am actually not shocked tbh.

I was disappointed Oklahoma wasn't on there. However a couple of things about Oklahoma you have to consider.
For decades, the Cardinals were the only team even remotely close to Oklahoma. When I was growing up just about everybody was a Cardinal fan. To this day a lot of radio stations still carry the Cardinals. And if they weren't a Cardinal fan they were a Yankee fan because of Mickey Mantle, Bobby Murcer, and Allie Reynolds.
Then a couple of things happened. The Royals and Rangers came around. But the Big Red Machine began rolling with Johnny Bench. I jumped on the Reds bandwagon and to this day there are lot's of Reds fans around here. And like anywhere there a lots of Cubs fans and strangely Red Sox fans. I don't think the Royals are that big a deal around here.
Today I would say that Oklahoma is:
1) Rangers
2) Cardinals
3) ?
Looking forward to the OP when he gets the rest of this done and thanks for the hard work. Great idea!
One thing that this date proved is that my sympathy for the Mets, White Sox and Angels for being step children in their own markets
I know more Tigers fans in OH than any other team. I guess that's what happens when you live 20 miles from the MI state line. Second would be Indians fans. I grew up far from Cincinnati.
Its amazing that even though the Astros are more successful, the Rangers have more popularity in Texas.
..and are the oldest team in Texas.
