LA was never heavily Black. It is seemed that way because of the hyper-media presence.
The City of LA was about 20% Black in the 70s. Because of that, there's a lot of Black history still in LA. What remains is a solid mostly middle to upper-middle class Black community. I don't see LA's Black population dwindling down much further. SF Bay Area is likely to lose way more Blacks than LA due to the difference in industries.
Well everyone- black and white-has the feeling that their taking over east coast cities when in reality (with the exception of DC) they're still in decline or their population has plateaued. They're just being far out paced in growth by other groups as you said.
I think they look at the houses they own that have appreciated considerably since the 1980s and they look around at the taxes going to social welfare programs that don't directly benefit them-and white people say 'why don't i just cash out this house and take the money somewhere warm?' Makes sense.
I also think that as minority numbers have grown in urban northern suburbs ...that in order to insulate oneself from the diversity/unpleasantries/change you have to be willing and able to pay a premium-one that only the wealthiest white people can actually afford to pay. If you want he apartment that has the retai,l and the gym, and the security, and the cutsie resident events, then you have to pay and arm and a leg in the northeast. Thats stuff is the default in other areas. Suburban whites who move to the city want to be in a building and community with very similar and like minded individuals whilst being near the jobs and entertainment venues.
Black Americans seem content to leave urban settings unless its southern and not that urban. The main increase in urban areas from my experience has been Hispanics and Asians. They seem to love the cities.
I gave some information in another thread that shows that the black percentage even in Southern cities has been pretty steady or maybe a slight increase. So, even in the South, black people are becoming more suburban. What I think is the cause of this is the ability and tendency for Southern cities to annex unincorporated land/communities and in turn could "water down", in a sense, the black percentage.
Also, I think the trend will continue with Hispanics and Asians, if it hasn't already started in select areas.

... One of my team members at work and his husband live there, and they love it....
Most people find this really surprising, but Salt Lake City has the seventh-largest gay population of any city in the U.S., has the highest percentage of gay parents in the U.S.
There's SO FEW native Americans across the country today, relative even to some of the more recent major immigrant groups. Makes me wonder how populated the continent was to begin with prior to colonization
These are just the ones that stuck out. Im less familiar with Native American demographics so Ill be happy to hear about one I missed.
Is this for the biggest metro populations or is this a random list? I know that the Buffalo metro area has about 9,000(mainly Seneca) and the Syracuse metro has about 5600(mainly Onondaga)(both about .8%).

Unlike Central and South America, there weren’t any large civilizations here that supported millions of people like the Inca, Maya or Aztec. There were some settlements but there was large scale hunter gatherer type peoples that lived here
Most estimates suggest that pre-European contact, there were are at most, 10 million people. Still though

Those are just for the core counties and seem to be a bit low. Buffalo's metro area are Erie and Niagara Counties. Rochester's metro is Monroe, Wayne, Livingston, Yates, Orleans and Ontario Counties. Syracuse's metro consists of Onondaga, Madison and Oswego Counties.
According to Quick Facts, Onondaga County .9% out of 461,000 people, Erie County is .7% out of 919,000 people and Niagara County is 1.1% out of 210,000 people. All 3 have Native American Reservations, with Madison County(.8% out of just under 71,000 people) having Oneida Nation owned land in the southern portion of the city of Oneida in that county(they also own this casino/resort nearby in Oneida County: https://www.turningstone.com/ and these 2 in Madison County: https://www.yellowbrickroadcasino.com/ , https://www.pointplacecasino.com/ ) . Senecas own these casinos: https://senecagamingcorporation.com/
