I did not realize San Diego and Orlando were that non-white. Huh.

It really speaks to the segregation in the Rust Belt that a lot of cities known for having large black populations (Cleveland, Detroit, Chicago, St. Louis) have surprisingly white MSAs.

Doesnt surprise me at all. Places like DC and Atlanta are unique vs the black ppl are spread out and not confined to city limits or one section of a city like most metros.

Biggest surprise for me was the low percentage of Blacks in California cities, especially Los Angeles. I thought Oakland and LA were heavily Black.

It really speaks to the segregation in the Rust Belt that a lot of cities known for having large black populations (Cleveland, Detroit, Chicago, St. Louis) have surprisingly white MSAs.
It also speaks to the fact that Rust Belt metros vary in terms of demographics from the core city/county to outer counties and the history of other metros in the South and West plays a part as to why many metros in those regions have high black and/or Hispanic populations. It is similar in regards to Asians in the West as well.

With this said, this doesn’t mean that non white residents in Rust Belt areas just live in the cities or a select part of a metro. It may come down to a matter of degree.

LA was never that black but in recent years it has been under 10% even
Many of the former black strongholds have become Hispanic majority.

I never said anything to the contrary.

Well youd be wrong. The Bay Area is 20% Hispanic while the Greater LA Area is over 40% Hispanic.

Besides, Im not talking about all of Northern California, Im not even referring to the entire Bay Area, only this area:

Almost an even divide between Whites, Asians, and Hispanics. I can't think of any other metro that comes close to that.
