Do you have robbery stats? Burglary is a lot less dangerous, but good to see DC so low.

We tend to just focus on violent crimes as a basis for how safe or dangerous a city is, but perhaps whether certain property crimes are high, medium or low could also shed light on the state of affairs in some of these cities. First thing regarding this list I do noticed that some of the more violent cities also have higher rates in at least one category of property crime(burglary here). Detroit in particular is not only near the top when it comes to burglaries per capita but it is the arson capital (127.1/100k) per year, and it definitely shows in its physical state. I see that Seattle is right behind with a rate that is still 1,000+. Maybe the fact that it's home to a high concentration of homeless(most are probably drug addicts or alcoholics) has something to do with it.

Incredible that New York City is all the way at the bottom of the list, even in burglaries.

Earlier, I was taken to task for supplying the murders for Metro Canadian areas under the notion that I was trying to make Canadians feel even more smug. In fact, the opposite was true.

I included Metros and their populations for Canadian cities because in Canadian cities, unlike American ones, the downtowns/inner cities tend to have significantly lower murder rates than the suburbs. Just including the original cities would not show the true numbers. Most American suburbs are just as safe or even safer than Canadian ones, it's the downtowns/inner cities where there huge differences lie.

Hard to say that, because there's a huge difference among US cities as all the stats here show. Walking around the center of Squeegeetown (aka Baltimore) is going to be a whole different experience than a stroll up Columbus Ave through the Upper West Side. America is all about diversity, and that includes highly diverse levels of safety across downtowns.

The robbery stats are also misconstrued in St. Louis. Add in the suburbs of St. Louis or just the area inside 170, we have a totally different stat. My neighborhood goes from 18k residents everyday to 150k or more depending on what is happening in the city. St. Louis is a hub city of 300k for a msa of almost 3 million. It's kind of hard to compare it to Memphis and Indianapolis type places. There is a context to everything.

Just 1 reason why the FBI tells people to not make crime rankings. However, it's all standardized by doing a rate for a city proper. You can say what you just said about a.pot of cities.

That is true.

I have to point out Boston and Philadelphia have small city limits with over inflated daytime population and doesn't have the stats of St. Louis but they have more wealth in the city whereas much of St. Louis wealth is just outside of the city limits.
