There has been a lot on the news lately. What is up with these people? Aside from an occasional robbery it looks like most of the murders come from drama with family and friends and guys who are trying to be tough.

The news is the worst source because they hype everything into a killing spree, and don't report when there's a lull.

Something like 60% of homicide victims know the person who kills them, while something like 10-20% of robberies occur to people who know the criminal.

More like 80% of the victims know their killers...
There were a study about victimhood in Philly and they found out that the profile type of a homicide victim is a young urban male who served time or had prior arrest and who is associated with criminals and who knows someone who got killed or who killed someone...

If you look at the pictures of the homicide victims, you will notice that the majority of those pics are mugshot.

That same study suggested to remove someone from his community to save his live, they came to conclusion that once you remove a person from that circle and relocate him to another place where he knows no one will reduce his chance of getting kill drastically...

The official number on 3/1 was 72 - it's probably around what the newspaper say, not 84. 84 might be counting self defense/police ones that are never counted by the FBI for any city in the country.

HeyJackass counts police and self defense related homicides. The FBI doesn't count this for literally any city in the US. We talk about it all the time - HeyJackass numbers need to be taken with a giant grain of salt and shouldn't be used if you are comparing from city to city.

LAPD compStat numbers include all homicides, including police shootings and self-defense. After all, ultimately it’s the DA or a judge/jury that decides whether a homicide is justifiable, not the police, and that decision can take months, or in the case of a trial, years after the homicide to reach a conclusion.
