Tampa is at 9 homicides. Although in that nine, 1 was an accidental shooting with a BB gun involving two children, and one was a lady hit by a car. The car one is being investigated as a murder tho, not a regular hit and run for some reason (police have been very tight lipped). So murder wise, I’m pretty sure Tampa is at 8, and the crazy part is 5 of those happened this week (there was a double murder and a double murder suicide in one day, then a separate murder the next).

Across the bay St Pete is at 6 homicides, one of which was officer involved. Assuming that will be cleared, they are at 5 murders.

A bb gun? That is terrible. I'm obviously assuming steel bbs and not plastic ones. Even steel bbs, I have been shot with, some at close range. The most they ever did was make me bleed, but they never penetrated the skin all the way. Obviously you have to watch out for your eyes most importantly. I always played with bb guns without much thought, but I guess parents really do need to worry about them. Kids under 12 should probably be supervised.

Most of these are fairly up-to-date. I can't get an accurate read on Houston but they had 29 homicides in January, so my guess is that they're somewhere around 60 or 65 homicides with between 2.5 and 2.8 per 100K. Some other cities like Portland and Austin I also can't get a semi accurate read on.

Sorted from highest to lowest homicide per 100K rate:

How the hell does Wichita have almost the same homicide rate as Chicago?

KC and Hartford being worse than Detroit... That's a new one too.

What effect do you think the coronavirus will have on murders this year?

Part of me wonders if they will be down across the board. We’ve never really dealt with a pandemic on this scale since these sorts of things have been meaningfully tracked. I wonder if the fear of contracting the virus will penetrate the gang areas. The disruption this virus has caused to all aspects of life has been unprecedented.
