Handily the most hated city here. Look at any thread on this board. Very few defenders, a heckuva lot of attackers.

There has been a lot of hype about Austin in the media and some are sick of it. Fair enough.

My point is that there are occasional stretches of monsoonal moisture even in Escondido that push temps up to 100 degrees, with dew points in the low 70s. During those times, the nights stay very warm. Yes, I get that that's the norm, not the exception for Austin, but you'll have to admit that even in Escondido this happens.

I get it. Some of the hate are from people who have never visited though and they'll say as much.

You are right in that regard. Supposedly the salary for engineers/tech people in San Diego is hardly, if at all, higher than in Austin. Let's not forget California has the highest state income tax rate.

In that regard, San Diego's economy and cost of living might be better compared to Canadian cities like Toronto. Like San Diego, Toronto has a high cost of living, high taxes, and a decent job market, but terrible pay for how expensive it is.

Speaking of which, gas in San Diego is so expensive, it's more expensive than most of Canada, including Toronto and Montreal! Just when you thought "gas in America is cheaper than in Canada," surprise! California gas prices apparently are even higher than Quebec and Ontario's!

I never understood why California's gas prices are so outrageous, especially when they are an oil producer.

Beacuse California has high tax, radically environmental, left-wing policies that rival Canada. The only reason taxes are somewhat lower in California than in Canada is because at least the federal gov't. is much more conservative than California and is sane enough to say no to whatever socialist pipe dreams California has. If California became its own country, it would instantly become as liberal as Canada.

If anyone doubts that gas prices are higher in California than Quebec and Ontario, go to Gas Buddy. Convert the stats for Ontario and Quebec--3.785 litres equals one gallon, and use the current exchange rate of 1 USD= 1.30 CAD.

I like San Diego a lot better than Austin.

The beautiful year-round weather, gorgeous coastline and natural setting. The downtown is beautiful and it is growing.

Austin can't compare other than beating San Diego on economy/jobs.

I find it amusing that anyone finds high gas prices "radical". Ignoring the very significant $$ monetary impacts that oil has on our environment and health, for decades the U.S. has engaged in radical, terroristic foreign policy to keep cheap oil flowing for its sad addiction to materialistic and excessive consumerism. Or the fact that we are making psychotic dictatorships and backwards societies incredibly rich and powerful just to keep oil flowing at cheap rates to American consumers who somehow require a gas-guzzling SUV to travel alone to work.

But there is also a very real reason that oil taxes/prices must increase in California. State infrastructure depends on these taxes. As California mandates more fuel-efficient vehicles, people don't need to purchase as much gas. As a result, less tax revenue goes to the state for critical infrastructure. If California doesn't increase these taxes, the state will receive less money.

Also, states that have the highest rates for energy/utilities also have some of the lowest actual expenses for those same utilities.

You are unbelievable. I already proved to you TWICE that your comparison is irrelevant. Canadians pay $4+ CAD for their gas and they are paid in CANADIAN DOLLARS. People in CA pay $3.52 USD per gallon and are paid in USD. So are people in CA going to go to Canada to buy their gas? No.

So gas in Canada is $4+ for Canadians. And gas is $3.52 for Californians. Any use of the exchange rate is IRRELEVANT!

Regarding San Diego vs. Austin? It's San Diego. Why? Location, location, location.
