I see that you're one of those people who believes that "black" is a race. Alright, champ, elucidate me. What is Black culture? How does this culture ensure the prosperity of so called Black people, how does it bond so called Black people, and how does it ensure the survival of so called Black people?
You're up, go!
Either you're being obtuse for its own sake or you're in desperate need of a crash course in American history. Either way, I never agreed to play your game and I'm certainly not interested in a semantics back and forth. Substitute a more accurate term for "Black" if that one bothers you so much, but you're well aware that this doesn't change anything conceptually.
There are SO MANY articles, video ,essays on why Atlanta is a black cultural capitol.
Yes, *a* Black cultural capital but not *the* Black cultural capital. I know you love your city, but you're selling us as a people waaaayyyy short by arguing that only one city is our definitive cultural capital. Culture takes decades and centuries to establish and propagate and ours did not evolve in any one place in this country. Let's not conflate "Black mecca" status with that of a singular cultural capital because there is no one city or region in America that can lay claim to such a title. As it was previously stated, these days I think Black entertainment capital is pretty accurate but culture goes very, very far beyond entertainment.

OMG!Wow.
Do some of yall just look for arguments not there?
In my post I said this:
Quote:
I did.I said film ,Tv,music, education with it having the largest consortium of black universities in America.
Culture encompasses the collective consciousnesses of the majority of a particular group.
Black culture is everywhere just like Jewish culture but if you asked a person of African descent anywhere in the world the one city that would come to mind ithe most is Atlanta. Atlanta being in a country whose influence is wide and far reaching just stands out for people with ancestors of tne African continent.
Im saying currently and it has nothing to do with the riches of black culture historically in other cities.Im of course not saying Atlanta has the most of any of this but its stands out nowadays above all others.
Just look at all the different polls asking where the Black mecca or most black this or that is.
Atlanta runs away with it everytime regardless if its right or wrong
And I said this also
Quote:
Im not saying those cities (NYC?DC)dont have all that .They most certainly do but in the collective conscienceless of all things black,Atlanta stands out regardless if its not the only one.
Now please tell me how you came to attribute what you said I said?
Yeh but the AUC is the largest consortium of black colleges in North America.
Way back from the Spike Lee movie School Daze to Drum Line, Atlanta HBCU are in front.
Dont forget the International Theological Center
The ITC is responsible for conferring more theological degrees than any other single place world wide.
Georgia Tech confers more black engineers than any other school in the US.
Spike Lee went to Morehouse as did Martin Luther King Jr.
Morehouse has has a connection with Goldman Sachs since its early years.
Do you know why Atlanta won the Olympics? https://www.nytimes.com/1990/09/19/s...-olympics.html
Till this day African countries have had strong ties to Atlanta and why its one of the top cities for African immigrants. Especially by percentage.
Atlanta has more than double the number of blacks than NYC has by percentage of population. No other city in America is close .32%
DC is next but considerably less(25%)next,then its Philly(20%).
Im not discounting history but please tell me what other city attracts more blacks than any other city? History isnt the reason Atlanta is more popular than New Orleans,DC,Philadelphia,or NYC.
There are SO MANY articles, video ,essays on why Atlanta is a black cultural capitol.
Just Google .BLACK MECCA then see how many articles on Atlanta come up.No other city even comes close.
Here is a video explaining and their are MANY more!
You dont have to agree with me but I know what I experience all the time with my meeting people from Africa and the Caribbean and its no reason to argue as you cant change my mind and I not yours
No, Why did Atlanta beat Greece to host the Olympics???
The NY Times wouldn't let me Read the Article you posted, (Says you have to be a Subscriber or something) Care to Elaborate???
It's it because of Atlanta's Black Influence you've been eluding too??

Not only but yes that was a crucial part of it winning.

But a surprising and crucial factor also appeared to be the work of Andrew Young, the former Mayor of Atlanta, who had lobbied hard among African, Middle Eastern and Asian countries based on his contacts as a former chief delegate to the United Nations in the Carter Administration.
Quote:
''Without Andy Young, Atlanta could not have made it,'' said Jean-Claude Ganga, a committee member from the Congo who is also president of the Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa, a group Mr. Young addressed last December.
Quote:
''We know Andy Young as a leader of black people in America, a civil rights leader and an associate of Martin Luther King,'' Mr. Ganga added. ''When he visited my country to push for Atlanta, he was cheered by crowds like some sort of a chief. He is a hero in my country.'' Athens Is Runner-Up The final vote of the I.O.C. was 51 for Atlanta and 35 for Athens. In each of four

Human Rights Theme
Mr. Young, who acted as chairman of the Atlanta organizing committee, said he sought to emphasize this theme by noting, for instance, that ''We Shall Overcome'' is now a popular anthem in Africa and elsewhere, although it began as a Georgia Baptist hymn adopted by the American civil rights movement.
''The human rights angle of the Olympic movement is something we really worked on,'' he said. ''The fact is, at least half the people of our city are of African descent, so when African delegates came and walked down the street, they saw people who looked like back home.''
