I've never been to Sacramento, but based on population, it being the state capital, and a little Google Maps sleuthing I'm sure it's more impressive. That being said, Spokane has one of the better downtowns I've seen for a city of its size - it just has a lot more in the way of parking lots that need to be developed. Riverfront Park is really nice, and the adjacent university district is growing nicely. According to Redfin, Spokane is the most competitive housing market in the country right now as crazy as that seems. Maybe will spur some new development.
Yes, people make these offhand Sac comparisons with the intent to label Sac as lesser than it actually is...
Sacramento is the major city from Reno to Vacaville, Redding to Modesto, a large swath of area that includes somewhere in the neighborhood of 5 million people. It is a major city in the vein of similarly sized cities the nation over, with the influence and cache within that 5-million person radius to match...
You could hardly see Spokane and think it is comparable to Sacramento in any honest way...
Have you spent time in both downtowns? Spokane has a very good downtown for a metro its size with some great historic architecture and a good number of restaurants, bars, etc.
If you strictly compare the two downtowns it’s a reasonable comparison. I voted for Sacramento but the difference isn’t that big. Again - talking strictly about downtowns here, not Midtown or other adjacent neighborhoods to these respective downtowns.

Lmao, Reno is like 3 hours from Sac. Vacaville is a bedroom community for bay area workers. Redding is practically Oregon, and Modesto is like 75 miles from Sac.
Sac Metro is a giant circle. Auburn, Davis, Galt, and Placerville is what the boarders are. Anything in that circle is basically the Sac Area
