Actually, it was. It's irrelevant where the bands were from. What matters is the concept of R&R was developed with the prodding of Alan Freed (and Cleveland culture) embracing African American rhythm & blues allowing white groups to develop the musical art from. Again, place of birth is irrelevant.
... as for the person who coined Rock and Roll from Billboard, name him or her.
The concept of R&R already existed before Freed started playing the records Sam Phillips recorded in Memphis and provided him. And of course place of birth is relevant. Otherwise stop getting mad at NC for their "First in Flight" license plates since it doesn't matter that Ohio is the birthplace of aviation.

I've studied music history for a number of years. You're not going to convince me.
It was Maurie Orodenker (journalist from Billboard) who started using the term Rock 'n' Roll. Freed marketed it. I've read this a number of times, but the one book that stands out is, "Before Elvis: The Prehistory of Rock 'n' Roll"
It's like saying that Cleveland was given the Hall of Fame because of charity.
I think you read way too far into what I said.

I agree 100%. Cleveland is unnecessarily bashed all the time. I love Cleveland, its one of my favorite American cities.

My apologies. It seems like Cleveland is America's whipping boy especially in pop culture.

Well Graceland gets upwards of 700,000 annual visitors. Looks like the R&R HOF gets about 500,000 annual visitors. Throw in Sun Studios’ 200,000 (or don’t), and it seems Memphis is drawing the music devotees organically in ways perhaps Cleveland couldn’t.
I mean Cleveland is a fine place as almost any I suppose. But this feels like it should be Memphis.
On the other hand, I’m kinda convinced Cleveland should have like a DJ HOF museum or something.
