Capital cities of Southern States that tend to be overshadowed by other metros in their respective states:

Cost of Living
Economy
Housing
Education
Crime
Transportation
Climate
Amenities
Recreation
Scenery
Location/Proximity
Nightlife
Other factors

Which of these more under-the-radar southern metros do you prefer?

Columbia, by far. One of the best and most underrated small metros in the nation, IMO. I love NW Arkansas (Fayetteville/Springdale area), but I have no desire whatsoever to live in the Little Rock area.

Little Rock. Crime ridden, but Columbia isn’t exactly a quantum leap up from it in that regard. Kind of a neat town for what it is.
Wasn’t impressed at all by Columbia, and South Carolina ranks about the same as Arkansas in my book. At least Arkansas is away from the east coast.

So LR gets the nod for you because it's not in a state on the Eastern Seaboard? Interesting since that's the biggest factor contributing to SC's population and economic growth compared to AR. Either way, not exactly a vote of confidence for LR.

Northwest Arkansas seems to be a far more popular destination than Central Arkansas/Little Rock Metro. To be fair, this is a pretty recent phenomenon because NWAR was pretty isolated well until the 1990s when I-540/now I-49 was finally completed and connected with I-40

None.
Northwest Arkansas is still a wannabe and a good bit smaller than Little Rock. NWA is basically bland nondescript suburbia at best and otherwise just typical Arkansas. Little Rock isn’t exactly a powerhouse, but it is at least interesting, even if only for short stints.
I’m no fan of Arkansas at all, but I genuinely like it better than South Carolina and believe it to have more going for it.

South Carolina outperforms Arkansas in nearly every important metric. What are you basing your claim off?
