We often talk about Chinatowns, but Little Indias while there are less in quantity, I find them more unique and interesting. Which Little India is the best in North America?

I included the big 5 which are:
  • Artesia, CA (in LA County)
  • Chicago (aka Mahatma Gandhi Marg)
  • Houston (aka Mahatma Gandhi District)
  • New Jersey (aka India Square)
  • Toronto (aka Garard India Bazzare)

I know there's some other Indian communities, but these are undisputedly better than the rest.

Thanks for this info... I didn't even know about Little Indias...
I should visit the one in Artesia next time I'm in LA.

Does Vancouver have a Little India?

There's an area known as Punjabi Market. Not as big as the ones listed here, though.

What the heck is "Mahatma Gahndi Marg" in Chicago? I've lived in the Chicago area all my life and I've never heard of any such thing.

Chicago's major Indo-Pak neighborhood is along Devon Avenue in West Rogers Park, but like many immigrant groups their dispersal into suburbia is well under way and many new immigrants now head straight for the suburbs. Schaumburg and Naperville in particular come to mind.

Devon in Chicago is fantastic. In Toronto, I found “Little India” to start to be eclipsed by some of the activity in Scarborough, at least in quality.

I haven't been to all of these, but I thoroughly enjoyed the one in Chicago.

Both in Dupage and Cook County suburbia the Indian community eclipses the city's, although Devon Avenue remains as the cultural hub of commerce.

Indians tend to be a rather solidly middle class to affluent people in the metro. It has always been that most have chose suburbia living over the city.

I would also put Parc-Ex in Montreal, it is a cool hybrid of a Little India/Greektown, but the Indian (and Southeast Asian population in general) has skyrocketed. Out of this list, I've only been to Gerrard India Bazaar in Toronto, loved the area.

Shouldn't Jackson Heights be included in a discussion of the biggest Little Indias?
