Who said that? Less diverse than DFW and Houston yes. Lily white, of course not.
It was a joke. People sometimes talk about how Black Atlanta is...as if nothing else is there. And - Metro Dallas is often perceived as "whiter" than Metro Atlanta. But actually, Atlanta's white percentage is higher than Dallas's. But just barely.
Just to bring the correct demographics in, here are the most recent demographics for all three metro areas:
Dallas/Fort Worth/Arlington MSA:
White - 45.6% - 3,441,796
Hispanic - 29.0% - 2,189,777
Black - 15.6% - 1,177,026
Asian - 7.0% - 531,356
Houston/The Woodlands/Sugar Land MSA:
Hispanic - 37.6% - 2,632,586
White - 35.5% - 2,482,842
Black - 17.0% - 1,188,134
Asian - 7.9% - 547,690
Atlanta/Sandy Springs/Roswell MSA:
White - 46.4% - 2,760,176
Black - 33.8% - 2,009,862
Hispanic - 10.9% - 646,761
Asian - 6.1% - 363,274
Here is how fast they grew from 2013-2018 by black population. Atlanta, DFW, and Houston were the top three in the US so Ive included other metro areas to put them in perspective. These three metro areas are easily the most favored in the US in terms of black growth:
I cannot speak to which is best for black people or which feels more black, but DFW will definitely pass Greater Houston for the largest black population in the state very soon. Atlanta will remain unchallenged. Having said that, a lot of times people use the word "diverse" when they really mean "black". Atlanta is less diverse than DFW and especially Houston. But its obviously more black.
Houston has less white people than Atlanta and DFW? Dang. This is probably another why Houston feels blacker than DFW.
Tough Call, however I would put Atlanta in the front seat again, if it did well for you and yours Careers. Family visits can be planned out and networks can be established again. The best thing about Atlanta is the access to nature, and the airport while also getting a familiar landscape and the diversity you crave. Houston is dragging these past couple years tbh.
Never been to Dallas so can't judge it from just one airport visit to Love Field is all I memory of.

This isn't new news for those in the know.
People talk about how Black Atlanta is because...well..it is. I think the 4.4M ARC region (every county Fulton shares a border with except Forsyth, plus Henry and Rockdale) is a better representation of the region as experienced by most visitors. Although the demographics aren't drastically different from the MSA's, it is a little less White and a little more Black (and Hispanic) at 42.6% and 36.3% (and 12.9%) respectively. In 7 of those 10 counties (all except Cherokee, Fayette, and Cobb), Black people are 40% or more of the population, constituting a majority, plurality, or near-plurality. That's pretty Black for such a populous area and Black folks are visible in all the places visitors tend to frequent, starting at the airport. The rough equivalent to the ARC region in DFW would probably be the Dalllas-Plano-Irving metropolitan division of 5.0M and nearly similar percentages as the DFW MSA with 43% White, 17% Black, 8% Asian, and 30% Hispanic with Whites constituting a majority of at least 56% in each of the 7 constituent counties except Dallas County where Hispanics (of any race) are the ethnic plurality at 41%. And the catcher is I'm sure there's a sizable chunk of the Hispanic population in Dallas that identifies as White racially, officially or unofficially. So yeah, these things would explain why both places are perceived the way they are.

Its overall a decent comparison but one thing that does make it a little hard is the size of the counties. Counties in Georgia are much smaller than they are in Texas.

As an outsider looking in, I dont necessarily feel that I noticed more or less black people in Houston than Dallas after living in both. The biggest differences to me are:
Houston feels more Hispanic
Houston feels more East Asian
Dallas feels more South Asian (Indian Subcontinent)
Dallas feels more White
The interesting thing to note is that there is almost no difference between the black and Asian population size in Dallas and Houston. The differences are DFW much larger white population and Houston's much larger Hispanic population.
The ironic thing is that DFW and Houston have similar sized Mexican populations. Houston just has a lot more Central and South Americans.

Brother Mute, yes, Atlanta is Black too. Atlanta exudes Blackness. That’s the beauty of it (among many other things).
You have got to learn nuances and humor...
You are on city-data all the time...you know there are a few people that talk about Metro Atlanta like there are almost no white people or like they are a minority in the Metro. Willfully ignorant and seriously obtuse. That’s the humorous point I was trying to make with the “Atlanta is so white” post.
