The Twin Cities, certainly. Not to say that Chicago has easy winters, but winters linger even longer in MSP, and you get the extremely frigid temperatures more often in MSP than Chicago.

Chicago definitely gets colder than a lot of places in the U.S. but the temperatures aren't crazy frigid as consistently.

People outside of Chicago seem to be obsessed. Often, the new threads started, seem to be in hopes of discrediting Chicago, on one way, or another. Just take a gander...you'll see what I mean.

I've been living just outside of Tokyo for the last 3 years, I have no skin in the game to either.

There is no discrediting Chicago here, I was just curious and wanted to hear the communities consensus/opinion.

Minneapolis- colder, sunnier, drier in winter generally
Chicago- a bit warmer, cloudier and more damp generally

Pick your poison. The other seasons in both are wonderful IMO.

Minneapolis actually warms up in the spring faster than Chicago.

I like both in winter.
Difference is, Minneapolis has more consistently cold and snowy winters making it better for winter sports.
So in the mindset of people who don’t like winter (which is not me), I’d say Chicago is worse because there’s usually not as much motivation to go outside and enjoy it.
That being said, Chicago winters are no big deal and just as easy to live with as hot scorching summers.
Go to the Twin Cities in January and you’ll see more than just a few people living it up.

The temperatures would usually only be off by a few degrees on a typical day, but Chicago is more frequently above freezing so snow doesn't stick around as long. The last major snowstorm (1-2') I remember was back in February 2015. It feels like we haven't been getting those so often anymore, though from my understanding Minneapolis has had a couple in more recent history.
