I like North Bremerton. This street just has more color overall, but not at all in a tacky way.

Alsea, Oregon

or

Cambridge, Vermont?

Going back a few pages... I live in Greensboro, and I've driven by the Rosewood neighborhood for years, but never ventured inside to explore. It's a neighborhood wedged between a busy expressway on one side, a main divided artery on another, and another busy 4 lane road to the west. Thanks to this thread, I've discovered a neighborhood that I wasn't familiar with.

Cambridge. I'm partial to Vermont, plus the the housing stock looks more pleasing to the eye, and not ramshackled like the Oregon housing.

Eastern NC

Edenton, NC

or Western NC

Lake Junaluska

Honestly as much as my decision here may surprise some people, I REALLY love the architecture and walkability I see that the town of Edenton has. So I'll go with that.

Props to Lake Junaluska for creating a walking path around that lake, a la what was down around Lake Geneva in Wisconsin. That said, I am surprised for interior(between the NC coast and Raleigh, as a lot of smaller towns in eastern NC have disappointed me, when I've street viewed them) eastern NC, how much I liked what I was able to street view of Edenton.

Now looking at small town downtowns, but in a different southern state:

Ellijay, GA: https://goo.gl/maps/BuzYXt3pYHKtcGvcA

or

Toccoa, GA: https://goo.gl/maps/RFdQfkTTKFGSXrybA

I'll go with Ellijay due to appearing to be bigger and a varied built environment.

A couple of cities in the same county...

White Plains NY: https://www.google.com/maps/@41.0311...8192?entry=ttu

or

New Rochelle NY: https://www.google.com/maps/@40.9094...8192?entry=ttu

I prefer the older, less corporate look of New Rochelle.

Lake Alfred, Florida

or

Lake Arthur, Louisiana?

The better towns in Eastern NC are the ones along the Inner Banks, Edenton, Elizabeth City, Washington, New Bern.

Lake Charles. Looks more like a traditional neighborhood to me. I like that the houses are closer together... a more attractive setting.

NODA area of Charlotte

Manchester area of Richmond VA

I'll go with NODA, due to not having as many gaps and it looks like it has a bit more going on.

University District, Detroit: https://www.google.com/maps/@42.4244...8192?entry=ttu

or

Weequahic, Newark NJ: https://www.google.com/maps/@40.7055...8192?entry=ttu

Weequahic by far. I'm not familiar with the neighborhoods of Newark's south side, but this one also adds another file to my mental folder labeled "Newark gets an undeserved bum rep."

Two more neighborhoods in perhaps similarly unexpected locations:

Yorkship Square, Fairview, Camden, N.J.

vs.

Miller Beach, Gary, Ind.

While the Camden neighborhood is more walkable, Miller Beach does have a legitimate business district here: https://www.google.com/maps/@41.6002...2i37?entry=ttu , the beach: https://www.google.com/maps/@41.6199...2i37?entry=ttu and train access into Chicago: https://www.google.com/maps/place/Mi...3jr5?entry=ttu

Westcott, Syracuse: https://www.google.com/maps/@43.0391...2i37?entry=ttu

or

Helderberg, Albany NY: https://www.google.com/maps/@42.6507...6656?entry=ttu
