Another day, another thread, this time about top 10 entertainment districts in North America. Hopefully this thread gets more responses and discussions than the top 5 art cities one I made.

Criteria

1. Whatever your city designates as an entertainment district.
2. Can only be within a city or county.
3. If there are multiple districts, pick one that you believe is the best to make the top 10 list. So please just stick to one entertainment district.
4. This applies to all regions in North America, not limited to only the U.S and Canada.

If de facto entertainment districts didn’t count, what’s the point? Would even the biggest OCD nerd say “that place there looks fun, but it’s not officially an entertainment district so I’m going to go to a place not quite as good but at least it’s officially in the entertainment district”. Smh

What is an official entertainment district? Sounds like a tacky suburban development with a Five Guys and movie theater.

Are Times Square or the French Quarter official?

Literally any city that designates an area as an "arts & entertainment" district that has a high concentration of arts, theatre, cultural venues and have their own zoning and distinct identity. Far from your definition of "five guys and a movie theatre" lol. So some examples to help you out, Broadway (Nashville) Vegas Strip, QDS (MTL) Arts & Entertainment District (Miami), Theatre District (NYC) etc..

The areas that require branding as "official entertainment districts" are usually just a concentration of venues in an area that is a dead zone most of the day.

Personally, I think the best entertainment districts are vibrant or active at all times, not just during specific events or evening periods. i.e. difference between Hollywood & Sunset Strip vs. LA Live.

Incorrect (this is coming from someone who works in municipal politics). Areas are designated this due to
1) High concentration of venues/bars/galleries/cultural venues/festivals
2) High marketability factors/Tourism
3) High concentration of public/private funding
4) Different zoning bylaws or regulations (noise levels, last call, easier to get permits, etc)
5) Urban/Space making

They are already active areas either day or night and have stuff to do no matter the day or time.

Kansas City has three of these; I wonder whether outsiders would consider all three as qualifying?

• Power & Light District
• Crossroads Arts District
• Westport

The city also promotes the 18th and Vine Jazz District this way, but it's nowhere near as lively as these three.

And since someone mentioned Rittenhouse Square: It's definitely the jewel in Center City Philadelphia's crown, and on the metrics, it checks off all those boxes. But I think if you were to ask most locals "What are our entertainment districts?", they would answer "Old City," "Manayunk" or "South Street" before they answered "Rittenhouse Square."

Rittenhouse Square is better known for its ritzy residents than for its nightlife. Usually, the two don't get along well.

For Kansas City I`d probably select Crossroads honestly since it has more variety IIRC. It's always hard to select one. Same with most cities (Philly included), but I'd go with the area that has the highest concentration of venues, bars, nightlife and all that.
