Newport Beach, please. Not only are the beaches right there instead of a drive across a toll bridge/tunnel, but Southern California has so much more to do. Yes, Newport News is close to Virginia's historic triangle, but CA has a lot of cool history on its own from colonial missions to midcentury architecture, and Disneyland beats Busch Gardens anyday, with Knotts Berry Farm also there to get your roller coaster fix. Newport News itself is mostly a sprawling, bland mess that outside of military-related attractions, doesn't really appeal much to the average tourist.

Central New Jersey (Mercer/Monmouth/Middlesex/Somerset/Hunterdon/Ocean* counties) or Southern New Jersey (Burlington/Camden/Gloucester/Salem/Cumberland/Atlantic/Cape May counties)?

NOTE: Ocean is often considered South Jersey, but this provides a more balanced matchup.

It's August so right now Cape May county and its beaches from the CM lighthouse to Wildwood, to Stone Harbor would win me over any other part of Jersey. I love that area in the summer. Historic charm, boardwalk charm, and boujie charm with beautiful beaches, bays, and marshland. I honestly could leave out the remaining counties save Atlantic county. South Jersey wins.

Cape Cod and the Islands, Mass or the Maine coast?

Maine coast. My impression of Cape Cod is that it's massively overcrowded in the summer and it's filled with annoyingly pretentious people. I don't know if this is actually true or not, but it's the impression I have, and it doesn't make me want to visit. The Maine coast is gorgeous and I'd love to explore it in depth. There's an island called Matinicus that, I believe, the ferry goes to only once a month. I'd die if I had to live in such an isolated spot, but it would be fascinating to visit it.

Rocky Mountain National Park, CO or Everglades National Park, FL?

RMNP for me. I grew up in Florida, so the Everglades isn't that big of a deal for me. I've never been to the Rockies.

Which small, historic Kentucky city would you rather visit:

Frankfort or Bardstown?

Frankfort sounds cool. I'd go with that. Reno or Atlantic City?

Utah. Difficult one because New Mexico is much more beautiful than it’s often given credit for. However, I still think Utah outsines it with Zion, Moab, Park City, etc.

Sticking with the mountain theme…

San Juan Mountains, CO or Olympic NP, WA

Have not been to either and want to get to both eventually. I think I'd like to knock out the San Juan Mountains first. I've always wanted to do the Durango to Silverton train.

Gatlinburg TN or Gulf Shores AL?

Gulf Shores. Casinos on one side, emerald coast on the other. Plus maybe scope out Mobile a little better.

Baltimore, MD or Buffalo, NY?

Baltimore. I've never been there and heard it has some cool attractions. Chattanooga TN or Tucson AZ?
