I have a feeling there has been 25 homicides in LA county during those 12 days and the article is just a prime example of poor wording. If Compton had 25 is 12 days that would be record setting news that would be all over.

After breaking records with 92 murders and a 30.2/100k murder rate in 2020, Cincinnati is off to a very good start in 2021 with just 1 murder through the first 3 weeks of the year.

Hopefully a sign of much better things to come.

Something is definitely wrong in Los Angeles this year. The community of Watts already has around 10 homicides with a population of 30,000.Those are war zone numbers to say the least.

If Los Angeles continues at this rate, it’ll produce homicides not seen in nearly two decades when the city had almost 700 murders in 2002. Mark Mester reports for the KTLA 5 News at 1 on Jan. 22, 2021.

That can’t be the entire county because Los Angeles city is also apart of the county. It doesn’t say whether Compton had 25 murders or not but I believe what you’re saying too.Ain’t no way that many homicides in Compton already.Yes Memphis is lunatic right now..

It's probably the part of the county that is patrolled by LA County Sheriffs. That includes all of the unincorporated areas (including several terrible areas in South LA that are outside of LA city limits) as well as 42 of the 88 cities in LA County. Those cities don't have their own police departments and contract with the county sherriff to provide their police coverage. Compton is one of those cities.

Quote:
LASD deputies provided law enforcement services to over three million residents in an area of 3,171 square miles (8,210 km2) of the 4,083 square miles on the county, both in the unincorporated county land and within the 42 contract cities.

I think if things get worse in the larger cities ( New York ) it’ll set an example on a nationwide scale.
2020 was the worse the city experienced in a decade. 447 homicides across the 5 boroughs was bad.
The statistics are grim: 1,480 shootings in New York City as of Thursday, almost double the 748 logged during the same period last year. The city finished 2020 with a 14-year high in that category of violence, according to Police Commissioner Dermot Shea.
