Not a homicide report, but there was just an attempted carjacking on the Dan Ryan expressway near 75th St close to 6pm yesterday. Thankfully, the person was caught. This carjacking frenzy in Chicago has gotten out of hand, to point of bold attempts in front of thousands of passing cars. 12, 13, 14 and 15 year olds(even girls), some of them. Turning into real life Grand Theft Auto. Carjackings shot up to 204, a 400% increase from Jan 2020.
Im wondering do you call the actual police depts for the info cause i see no other way you could get accurate LA info other than hitting them direct. Like you listed 30 for La on the 21st before they even post the public stats for the week before. Keep it up you the plug for bad news lol
There website where you can find info just add indents from what official news site post. I am going include links where people can look at the info.
No. But that just means Philly can more easily surpass its record than Chicago. I dont think Chicago will ever hit 970 again. It will start a permanent decline in violent crime before that.
Most of the recent increases across the country had been street related gang, drug murders. I read a link im about to post about La county actually having a lesser percentage of gang related homicides in the 80s and 90s compared to more modern times from 00s and up. Something along the lines of 60% in the mid 00s while about 45% in the early 90s most of this spike is strictly street business and a bit more domestic cases. While the older times it was something else..some criminalogist believe lead in gasoline tho i sorta doubt it
Well, things have changed a bit. Gang related more recently, per LAPD, is about 50%. There are certainly theories that lead reduction and abortion since Roe v Wade may have contributed to decline in murder rates, and there may be some contribution.
The thing that is best linked time-wise to the crime reduction is the 1994 Crime Bill and the 1994 introduction of the 3 strikes law in California. We made continued progress against murder and other crimes until the mid 2010's, when "justice reform" began roling back long sentences for all kinds of crimes. For some kinds of convictions, it makes sense, but for others we are seeing the after effects of releasing people early who go out to commit more crimes. During COVID, jail and prison populations in California have decreased between 25-50%, primarily through early releases to help prevent COVID outbreaks, as ordered by the courts.
The other LA specific issue is vagrants. Vagrants, despite being <1% of LA's population, commit about 20% of the murders in LA. LAPD frequently cite this, but the press usually just reports it in passing with no commentary to avoid "demonizing the homeless." Most of the time vagrants murder other vagrants, but they do occasionally target regular people.
Homicide-free month for Raleigh though some resident was arrested for murder in Garner, NC so not sure if that counts. That's pretty good for a city of 500,000.
Couple of homicides around the Triangle though but not Raleigh city limits.
