Flint didn't have a good start of the year either: 5 homicides until February 7th compared to 0 in the same period last year, which was a very bad year. Link.

Somehow Palm Beach County, Florida still hasn't had a homicide in 2021 as of yesterday. It's a dense county with over 1.5 million people in it. Some pretty incredible things have been going on down there lately.

MTL now at 6, compared to 2 last year around this time. This is super unusual for the city and numbers like this never happen this early. It's to the point where the mayor called on both levels of government to help out.

Very unusual for Montreal, especially since one victim was a 15-year-old girl. With that said, not exactly surprising. The economic recovery in Canada has been slow, similar to the US. Covid really has exposed that while Canada has a stronger social safety net than the US, it really has a lot of gaps that people can fall through.

Toronto is having a bad start to the year also with 9 homicides along with another young girl in critical condition from a shooting last night. If things don't turn around quickly, especially by summer, we could be in for a terrible year.
