America has the same homicide rate for white people as Canada and as I mentioned earlier, Canadian cities, except Vancouver, account for a much higher share of their metro populations, so the per 100k numbers are better compared to US MSA figures, not US city figures.
Seattle and Vancouver have comparable homicide and property crime rates. Moreover, Vancouver's Downtown Eastside is like the San Francisco Tenderloin with crazy homelessness, property crime, drug use, needles, etc.
Canadian cities have plenty of rough areas and lack the economic opportunity of major American cities. We have freedom of choice in this country they don't have, so be careful about praising them.

Pretty cool the inner core of Boston as I call it, Boston+Somerville+Cambridge+Brookline+Revere+Winth rop+Chelsea+Everett+Newton
Population: 1,300,000 est
Murders: 19
Rate: 1.4
About 85sqmiles
Pretty solid and extremely low for a city core
And it’s not like a lot of these areas are ritzy either. Places like Chelsea, and parts of Revere, Everett, Quincy , Malden and Medford are really blue-collar to lower-income. There’s also plenty of public housing in Somerville and Cambridge as well.
Massachusetts in general is pretty safe even in a lot of really maligned areas like Lowell and Fall River. I would say outside of subsections of Springfield and Boston, there aren’t really intense hotspots for shootings, homicides etc. There can be years where places like Brockton, Lynn, Lawrence, and New Bedford can spike but it’s just so sporadic. It’s such a different conversation compared to CT.

Springfield is on par with New Haven and Hartford, but Bridgeport is more like Worcester or New Bedford nowadays. Bad, but not exceptionally bad. They are still far above average. Both MA and CT are generally very safe. MA used to have quite a lot of violent cities 10-15 years ago, but CT's violent crime is heavily concentrated in Bridgeport, Hartford, and New Haven while the rest is typical quiet suburbia. Waterbury, Norwalk, and Danbury are super safe.

Lived in CT in throughout the 80s and 90s and these were the worst cities back then as well.
