Chicago- 270(?)

5 killed since Friday night.

14 year old girl dies 3 days after being shot in the head by gang members in the Back of the Yards neighborhood. She was walking her dog with boyfriend when 3 men approached and asked her was she in a gang. After saying no, they chased before opening fire. According to the alderman of the area, the girl's death is likely linked to an ongoing conflict between the deeply-rooted Saints and the newer Party People, the latter an old gang but relatively new in that particular neighborhood. The 3 guys are said to be members of the Party People, whereas the girl, on the other, was a relative of the rival Saints, and I believe the block she was killed was within their territory. Still a sad event to have happened.

A 15 year old girl was shot while in a car at a stop light near the Buckingham in Grant Park late Thursday night. According to the family, the attacker was neither familiar nor interacting with them before shooting at their car. She is 24th child shot since May 22nd, and 138th juvenile shot this year.

What I dont understand and irks me about Chicago is why does the general public from Chicago know so much about all the people that are active and blog/vlog comment on every individual event so openly in every comment section. Its like non gang members are so infatuated with those that are. I respect people but not persons and if you move a certain way how would people know your entire biography and life story like that.

Much of the homicide increase is black-on-black, and these three cities have very few black people. There are white people crimes in all three - stealing for drugs for sure, but let's be real about what's going on elsewhere with large homicide increases.
A minor quibble here, but Seattle is actually at 14 or 15. (11 was only through April).

Other side of the border and Tijuana River is everyday suburban America.
San Diego, El Paso, and Austin typically have among the lowest homicide and violent crime rates in the country (usually lower than San Francisco or Seattle) and all three are heavily latino. So not sure what you are talking about here.

For example - look at 2020:

Seattle - 52 homicides (7.18 rate per 100K)
San Francisco - 45 homicides (5.14 rate per 100K)

Austin - 45 homicides (4.73 rate per 100 K)
San Diego - 41 homicides (2.90 rate per 100K)

The cities with the much higher Latino population have the lower murder and violent crime rates, so there goes your theory.

Mass shooting in portland left 4 people died yesterday…it was probably a drug house.

There have also been two triple homicides in the past couple of days in Miami-Dade.

Miami-Dade is going wild lately....

So is Cleveland, OH.

35 people shot, 4 stabbed, 3 homicides over the weekend. Homicides are up 30% this year compared to this time last. Last year, Cleveland had a bad homicide rate on par with Detroit- 48-49 per 100K. If they keep this rate up, they'll have a homicide rate on par with 2015-2019 St Louis.

Great point - just because there are Latin American countries with a lot of crime does not somehow mean Latino people are inherently violent. There are long histories of wars, government corruption, US meddling, etc. in Latin America that has created the violent situation in many of those places.

But as you rightly point out, some of the safest cities in America are ones with very high Latino populations - El Paso, San Diego, etc.

What the US did to Latin America is what Europe did to Africa.
