Toronto has more than twice as many murders as Montreal but not twice the population, though with its 24 murders still very low when compared to a US city of similar stature. Quebec City is still at zero mid-year, even with over 500,000 residents in the city limits.

Canada is less ignorant and lesser gang culture than USA so you going have less murders. Toronto area have most poverty in Canada.

A lot of what Montreal has seen this year has been femicides (about half or a little more have been domestic violence) or gang related incidents. Shootings are up here but it's still nothing to what you'll see in the states. Once things are 100% opened and more people have jobs/live life, things will get better. But still, 10 homicides for an island of about 2,070,000 people is pretty good.
Much of the homicide increase is black-on-black, and these three cities have very few black people. There are white people crimes in all three - stealing for drugs for sure, but let's be real about what's going on elsewhere with large homicide increases.
And then you have Portland and Austin...very few black people.
Houston had a rough weekend. One news station has it at around 190 homicides as of May 31, another 178 as of May 28 with one saying there were 10 homicides over the holiday weekend vs 12 for the other.
Cleveland had at least three more over the past week, but the trend of fatal shootings in the suburbs continues as well. There was a domestic murder in Euclid, six people shot (one killed) at a cookout in Garfield Heights and a man was shot to death at an East Cleveland gas station.
All three of Euclid, East Cleveland and Garfield Heights already have had multiple homicides this year. Between those three and Maple Heights, I'm guessing the total is already around 15-17 (population of about 110,000 combined).
And then you have Portland and Austin...very few black people.
Many of the homicides in Austin and San Diego are Latinos, which Canada only has in very small numbers. But it's amazing how safe San Diego is compared to Tijuana, which has the highest homicide rates in the world. Zona Norte, one of the worst parts of Tijuana, is blocks from the US border. Other side of the border and Tijuana River is everyday suburban America.
Chicago had 4 homicides over Memorial Day weekend compared to 33(!!!!!! Still can’t believe it)homicides Memorial Day weekend last year.
This year’s Memorial Day weekend Homicide total was the lowest in a decade.
That's....a REALLY good decrease. An amazing decrease actually.
