Just checked the Seattle PD Crime Dashboard and they're reporting 35 homicides so far this year. 2020 totaled 52, so we may be looking a bit better for 2021.

According to the @HomicideSeattle twitter page, which is more up to date and surprisingly reliable, Seattle is currently at 42. It'll still probably finish better than last year.

However, the suburbs South of Seattle are having a pretty rough year. Kent (a city of 120K) just had its 14th homicide this year. Federal Way (95K) just had its 10th,etc.

I’m sure there are a few more but one thing is for sure, people are quick to kill these days. People have some serious issues they need to deal with.

Should give some additional context, i.e. per capita rate. For example, Austin has 60 homicides. The record was 1984, when Austin recorded 59 murders. However, Austin's population is more than TWICE as big as in 1984. Whereas Baltimore county's population, I have no doubt has grown only marginally.

Chicago- 750

A recent report by medical examiner office from four days ago reveals that Cook County has seen 1,009 (927 gun-related) homicides, the most since 1994. The city of Chicago itself experienced 777 of them. The suburbs towards south and west have been seeing a surge, such as Harvey with 30 for a rate of 148/100k and Maywood 16 at 70/100k. In 2019, Harvey saw 23, which was a record from the historic high of 21 in both years 1994 and 1995 when the population was 30,000.

Other suburbs:

Dolton-11
Calumet City-8
South Holland-8
Berwyn-7
Chicago Heights-7
Cicero-6
Markham-6

If there are conflicting numbers I a)first default to the FBI, as their numbers come from what the city reports to them; b)if a city didn't report to the FBI, I default to what their police department publishes; and only if these two are unavailable do I go with local media reports, which can vary wildly, but I will use those if there is no other option...
