Nashville has also been bleeding black professionals for a long time and it's common knowledge that many graduates of Nashville's HBCU's do not stay in the area after graduation, making the difference between Nashville and Atlanta rather qualitative, depending on who you ask.

This is sad but true. Nashville fails to provide the jobs young black professionals are looking for. There is also underlying racial discrimination preventing qualified blacks from being hired. Nashville is becoming more progressive, but it is not quite there yet. It is still run by the good ole boy network. No wealthy black neighborhoods or things to do specifically catering to black culture like Atlanta.

I agree with the last two statements.
It's not simply a comparison of how many HBCUs or even how many good ones, it's about the integral part the HBCUs play in society.

The Atlanta HBCUs are on a different level because they play a stronger role or a more integral role in making the city what it is today.

Before the contrarians chime in, I am not saying they played the only role in shaping ATL, I am saying they played a more integral role than Nashville's HBCUs.

They helped attract a large cache of professionals who came for the education but stayed for the atmosphere they experienced. They also contributed greatly to the culture of the city and that professional class helped attract and grow the city's black professional class

eh I think if Charlotte/Nashville has it Raleigh or the surrounding area probably have it as well.
