Which state containing some part of the Appalachian Mountains is the most livable, in the mountain area?

Any reason for leaving off New Hampshire and Vermont? VT is one of my favorite states in the east, at least in the summer.

Because I did not realize they were part of the Appalachians

Western North Carolina is my favorite, but there are beautiful areas in the mountains in several other states. WNC has the tallest mountains in the east, numerous waterfalls and other iconic natural landmarks, three significant public universities and a number of private schools, and a mix of urban and rural communities with both natives and transplants. It also does not have a legacy of coal mining or consistently bitter winters.

You forgot Maine too. Mt Katahdin is the crowning glory at the end of the Appalachian Trail. Much more mountainous than anywhere in Ohio which is on the poll for some reason.

I’d vote for Vermont if only it were on the poll...

Relax folks , they just wanted to give the ones outside of NE a chance :P

I would say NC is highly livable and has a little bit of everything.

Agreed for the poll choices, NC would be at the top for me. But it's like having a poll for the Rockies and excluding Montana.
