Everyone knows NYC is vibrant and alive at night. The city that doesn't sleep. Besides NYC , what few other cities are vibrant and pedestrian activity at night ?
The city that immediately comes to mind is Las Vegas (strip). But also New Orleans and Miami. I was pleasantly surprised at just how vibrant the New Orleans French Quarter is at night.
I think California cities are out. Clubs close at 2 am there.
That would be morning A lot of the clubs in LA don't close at 2 but do have to stop serving alcohol, which is a definite drawback to many people. I don't know about the Bay Area but I would imagine this is the case as well.
I guess it depends on the what the OP meant by "night". If they are talking about nightlife and the most things to do, or if they mean just activity in the nighttime, say 8 PM on.

Definitely. A lot of people that have visited me here in LA are surprised how dead LA is after 1:45 AM. The only things that are still open usually are hookah bars (with really really hot Persian or Armenian girls everywhere), but those close by 5 AM and they aren't everywhere.
As for this thread, Vegas BY FAR. In fact, Vegas is more active at night than the day, at least the strip.
Anywhere off the strip, ehh.
