In regards to Hudson county, it doesn't have the primary or secondary city of the metro, however it does include Jersey City which is the 3rd largest city in the metro.

Very true, and we all know the NYC metro is a different animal. By and large Hudson County is more urban than most counties in the US. Similar to Arlington County in Virginia, but even more intense and populated.

^^Officially, the census titles a metro with more than just the primary city. For major metros, it can be up to two other cities that also can be designated as "principal" or anchor cities.

For NYC, it's the New York-Newark-Jersey City metro

LA: LA-Long Beach-Anaheim metro

Chicago: Chicago-Naperville-Elgin metro( I think Evanston or maybe Aurora would make the most sense as the third city, but I'm guessing it's because Elgin has the second biggest school district in the state)

DC: Washington-Arlington-Alexandria metro

In many cases, the second and/or third city have something that makes them legit urban centers and sometimes are diversity/immigrant/tourist magnets in their own right. This is certainly the case when it comes to Arlington and/or Alexandria as secondary employers. Long Beach has been a main cultural center for Cambodian immigration, and I don't think of it as a suburb of LA. Anaheim is the third largest city in the metro, largest in Orange County, and is home to Disneyland. Newark and Jersey City are pretty urban and in separate states from the main city. Naperville in its downtown alone has the ability to draw in many people, giving it a real medium-sized anchor city feel. I'm amazed by it. Also, it's anchored by STEM employment, which is typically a main source of income for Asians, in which the city boosts plenty, as well as the the county.

I was looking at the list of IL counties with at least some Polish population, and I thought it was interesting a lot had settled in Cook and DuPage, but not so much in Lake County. Maybe one day, that will change? Then again whenever I go out to Lake County, I hadn't seen a lot of Polish businesses there.

And interesting for Cook and DuPage, that Koreans didn't crack over 1%. I would've thought they might in at least Cook, and possibly also in DuPage.

I'm now curious since you posted such countries for immigration in Champaign Cty., do you know what countries have settled the most into McLean Cty.? I'm curious, since I used to go to Illinois State University.

There are 3,006 counties in the United States. I want to try and find a way to see if we can somehow make a list of the top 75 most diverse counties in the US. It amounts to the top 2.5% of counties. I did this manually so if I missed one or two, forgive me and let me know what they are. I do think I got all of them though.

For this, I will be considering non-Hispanic White, Black, Asian, Hispanic, as well as Pacific Islander and Native populations. To qualify in the initial stage of this exercise, the specific counties must have 4 of the 6 groups listed above the specified numbers.

As I final disclaimer, I am not ranking the counties in order from most diverse to least diverse here. I am only trying to find those that belong in the top 75 overall. If you see one county above another in the lists below, that does not mean its more diverse. Rather the counties on each list met the same set of requirements to be there.

Counties that have at least 20% of 4 of the 6 groups listed are on the first list.

Fort Bend, TX: 31.9% White - 24.9% Hispanic - 21.3% Black - 20.9% Asian
Queens, NY: 28.2% Hispanic - 26.9% White - 24.9% Asian - 20.7% Black

Counties that have at least 10% of 4 of the 6 groups listed are on the next list.

Montgomery, MD: 42.9% White - 20.1% Hispanic - 20.1% Black - 15.6% Asian
Solano, CA: 37.2% White - 27.3% Hispanic - 16.2% Asian - 14.8% Black
Hudson, NJ: 42.7% Hispanic - 29.0% White - 16.4% Asian - 14.8% Black
Hawaii, HI: 30.2% White - 21.2% Asian - 12.9% Hispanic - 12.8 Pacific Islander
New York, NY: 47.2% White - 25.6% Hispanic - 17.8% Black - 12.8% Asian

Alameda, CA: 32.6% Asian - 30.6% White - 22.3% Hispanic - 11.0% Black
Sacramento, CA: 43.8% White - 23.6% Hispanic - 17.0% Asian - 10.9% Black

Denton, TX: 57.6 White - 19.6% Hispanic - 11.0% Black - 9.8% Asian

Wyandotte, KS: 40.3% White - 29.8% Hispanic - 22.6% Black - 5.4% Asian

There are 57 counties listed above and I think all would belong in the top 75. That leaves 18 more to consider. There are other counties that dont exactly measure up to the metrics provided, but would definitely be in the top 100 most diverse. Some of the ones below would objectively be more diverse than some of the above, they just arent as racially balanced. For these, I tried to focus on counties that almost made the list above as well as some larger counties that are very diverse but lack in one specific area.

San Bernardino, CA: 54.4% Hispanic - 27.3% White - 9.4% Black - 8.0% Asian
Ramsey, MN: 61.1% White - 15.3% Asian - 12.9% Black - 7.5% Hispanic
Travis, TX: 48.9% White - 33.6% Hispanic - 8.9% Black - 7.4% Asian
Fulton, GA: 44.5% Black - 39.1% White - 7.6% Asian - 7.2% Hispanic
Riverside, CA: 50.0% Hispanic - 34.1% White - 7.3% Black - 7.2% Asian
Pierce, WA: 65.7% White - 11.4% Hispanic - 7.7% Black - 7.1% Asian
King, WA: 58.1% White - 19.7% Asian - 9.9% Hispanic - 7.0% Black
Anchorage, AK: 57.1% White - 10.0% Asian - 9.4% Hispanic - 9.1% Alaska Native
Tulsa, OK: 61.2% White - 13.3% Hispanic - 10.8% Black - 6.9% Native American
DeKalb, GA: 54.8% Black - 29.3% White - 8.5% Hispanic - 6.5% Asian
Will, IL: 62.5% White - 18.2% Hispanic - 12.2% Black - 6.0% Asian
Franklin, OH: 62.1% White - 23.8% Black - 5.8% Hispanic - 5.7% Asian
DuPage, IL: 66.0% White - 14.6% Hispanic - 12.7% Asian - 5.3% Black
Jefferson, LA: 52.0% White - 28.3% Black - 14.9% Hispanic - 4.3% Asian
Rochester, NY: Black - 39.8% - 36.7% White - 19.2% Hispanic - 3.1% Asian
Santa Clara, CA: 39.0% Asian - 30.6% White - 25.0% Hispanic - 2.8% Black
San Mateo, CA: 38.7% White - 30.6% Asian - 24.0% Hispanic - 2.8% Black
Orange, CA: 39.8% White - 34.0% Hispanic - 21.7% Asian - 2.1% Black

Based all the above, those would be the 75 most diverse counties in the US. But two things to remember:

1) Again, I did this manually! If I missed a county that is more diverse than some of the counties above, point it out and Ill revise the list!

2) This does not factor in immigrants and foreign born groups YET! I will make another post that explores the top counties for immigrant diversity to factor in everything. Counties like Orange and Santa Clara in California arent in one of the top lists here but they definitely will be when we talk about immigrant diversity and that will be factored in the end.
Great work, but I was absolutely repelled by counties that have any majority(LOL) so for my own deductive reasoning, I removed all counties with a majority race and then removed all counties with a white plurality, here are the 14 counties that remained:

Queens, NY: 28.2% Hispanic - 26.9% White - 24.9% Asian - 20.7% Black
Hudson, NJ: 42.7% Hispanic - 29.0% White - 16.4% Asian - 14.8% Black
Alameda, CA: 32.6% Asian - 30.6% White - 22.3% Hispanic - 11.0% Black
Honolulu, HI: 42.9% Asian - 17.9% White - 10.0% Hispanic - 9.7% Pacific Islander
Kauai, HI: 31.0% Asian - 29.3% White - 11.4% Hispanic - 9.1% Pacific Islander
Los Angeles, CA: 48.7% Hispanic - 26.1% White - 15.4% Asian - 9.0% Black
San Joaquin, CA: 42.0% Hispanic - 30.5% White - 17.4% Asian - 8.3 Black
Philadelphia, PA: 43.6% Black - 34.3% White - 15.2% Hispanic - 7.8% Asian
Harris, TX: 43.7% Hispanic - 28.7% White - 20.0% Black - 7.3% Asian
Dallas, TX: 40.8% Hispanic - 28.3% White - 23.6% Black - 6.7% Asian

Essex, NJ: 41.9% Black - 30.2% White - 23.8% Hispanic - 5.9% Asian
Fulton, GA: 44.5% Black - 39.1% White - 7.6% Asian - 7.2% Hispanic
Rochester, NY: Black - 39.8% - 36.7% White - 19.2% Hispanic - 3.1% Asian
Santa Clara, CA: 39.0% Asian - 30.6% White - 25.0% Hispanic - 2.8% Black

of these, 8 have 1 million+ population(bolded)

6 have Hispanic pluralities:
Queens, NY: 28.2% Hispanic - 26.9% White - 24.9% Asian - 20.7% Black
Hudson, NJ: 42.7% Hispanic - 29.0% White - 16.4% Asian - 14.8% Black
Los Angeles, CA: 48.7% Hispanic - 26.1% White - 15.4% Asian - 9.0% Black
San Joaquin, CA: 42.0% Hispanic - 30.5% White - 17.4% Asian - 8.3 Black
Harris, TX: 43.7% Hispanic - 28.7% White - 20.0% Black - 7.3% Asian
Dallas, TX: 40.8% Hispanic - 28.3% White - 23.6% Black - 6.7% Asian

4 have Black pluralities:
Philadelphia, PA: 43.6% Black - 34.3% White - 15.2% Hispanic - 7.8% Asian
Essex, NJ: 41.9% Black - 30.2% White - 23.8% Hispanic - 5.9% Asian
Fulton, GA: 44.5% Black - 39.1% White - 7.6% Asian - 7.2% Hispanic
Rochester, NY: Black - 39.8% - 36.7% White - 19.2% Hispanic - 3.1% Asian

4 have Asian pluralities:
Alameda, CA: 32.6% Asian - 30.6% White - 22.3% Hispanic - 11.0% Black
Honolulu, HI: 42.9% Asian - 17.9% White - 10.0% Hispanic - 9.7% Pacific Islander
Kauai, HI: 31.0% Asian - 29.3% White - 11.4% Hispanic - 9.1% Pacific Islander
Santa Clara, CA: 39.0% Asian - 30.6% White - 25.0% Hispanic - 2.8% Black

As far as regional representation:
3 are located in the NY CSA
3 are located in the SF CSA
2 are located in the State of Hawaii
1 is located in the Atlanta CSA
1 is located in the Dallas CSA
1 is located in the Houston CSA
1 is located in the LA CSA
1 is located in the Philadelphia CSA
1 is located in the Rochester CSA

8 of these counties contain cities in the 50 largest in the US by population: New York, Oakland, Los Angeles, Houston, Dallas, Philadelphia, Atlanta and San Jose.

The county farthest removed from the principal downtown of it's CSA is San Joaquin county, located 83 miles East of downtown San Francisco.

Again, these are counties with no racial majority and do not have white pluralities.

Thanks for the info.
