Probably El Paso, but twice as large.

The river walk does remind one of the Tombori in Osaka with a more understated and elegant vibe

I’ve lived in the San Antonio area and also Albuquerque. To me San Antonio feels like a mix of Albuquerque and Corpus Christi.

Phoenix? I don't see the comparison.

The hills in san antone and the greenery reminds me of san diego. Oh yea, both have amazing mexican food.

San Diego is similar IMO, though more desirable because of the ocean and climate.

Both have a big military presence and tourist activity. Spanish history and a big local Hispanic population. Laid back and more conservative than other cities in their respective regions. Close ties to Mexico (Tijuana and Monterrey), etc.

Probably a mixture of Austin, El Paso, and Albuquerque would be my guess.
