Fair point with Denver. As for the other 2: the Bay Area is isolated and the Bay Area is basically SF-etc. The only nearby big city is Sacramento, which is small enough to be dwarfed by the bigger NorCal metro area. Portland, OR and LA are miles away. Detroit has Toledo nearby, but then the closest similar sized cities are Cleveland and Grand Rapids which are much farther from Detroit than DC and Philly are from Baltimore.

With respect to Detroit being isolated, I saw a stat posted on here that Detroit has ~10 million people who live in a 100 mile radius of the city. That's more people in relatively close proximity than several of the top 10 metros.

So yeah, hardly isolated.

Yeah I completely agree about using metros instead for this - if you look at the poll list, it's obvious many of these cities aren't comparable to others, even though their city limits populations are in the same category. City limits populations are only useful for one thing - government administration. nothing else.

I feel like DC, SF and Vegas are extremely well known. I didnt vote because I think it's a 3-way tie.
