I’m no expert on Columbia, but I don’t think they feel or look much alike. USC and NC State interact in extremely different ways to the downtowns, and the suburbs aren’t much alike. They are both Southern state capitols, but otherwise, eh. Maybe several generations ago, I don’t know.

They have similar feels today in their cores. Both cities were planned in similar ways and along the fall line with similar geographies/topographies, and even the patterns of development and their poorer neighborhoods have similar feels. Twins they are not, but driving through parts of the core of the city I certainly saw unmistakable glimpses of Columbia. The biggest differences would be in the suburban areas though.

My vote in this poll went to Charlotte, but as I've said, I think Raleigh is best described as a Charlotte/Columbia hybrid.
