This is Not Fair Jacksonville has A Beach, How is Memphis supposed to compete with a City with a Beach
Should have been Mem vs Jax (without beach) or Mem (with a Beach) vs Jax , this is too lopsided poll is too lopsided, How about this, since the Beach makes this unfair, If Memphis can manage to get Two Votes, Memphis wins and I'm not going to vote i will just sit on the side lines

Anyways Jacksonville is an afterthought in Florida, quickly gets lost in the shuffle (it has some beautiful parts tho) In Tennessee, You can't talk about Tennessee cities without eventually Mentioning Memphis

The OP listed 11 different metrics for comparing Jacksonville and Memphis. The only one that could possibly include "beach" is Scenery/outdoor recreation. That gives 10 other metrics where Memphis could compete with Jacksonville. If Memphis loses to Jacksonville (which it should) it's not because of Jacksonville's beaches.

Scenery/outdoor recreation: Jacksonville (the Atlantic beaches are much nicer than the Mississippi River).
Culture: Memphis. A surprising amount of high brow culture for such a poor city. And the Delta Blues culture is very unique.
Education: Jacksonville by a mile.
Economy: Jacksonville by a mile.
Food: Tie. Memphis has better bbq, Jacksonville has better seafood. Both have great Southern food.
Cost of living: Memphis is dirt cheap, but there's a catch: unless you're in a far-flung suburb, even nice neighborhoods in town are only a couple of blocks away from crack neighborhoods. Still, if all you care about is price, then Memphis wins by a hair.
Crime: Jacksonville is safer.
Infrastructure/transportation: Tie. Neither city has much traffic, and neither city has much public transporation.
Urbanity: Memphis by a hair.
Desirable suburbs: Jacksonville
Climate: Memphis has more of a four-season climate which I prefer.

Memphis is nowhere near as bad as people claim, and neither is Jacksonville. But Jacksonville is definitely a nicer city than Memphis.

I agree with this. Aside from that Jacksonville itself doesn't have any beach front, it's 10 miles inland. City to City even without beaches JAX is just in a tier above in pretty much every category.

Jacksonville is still a Floridian city with Floridian growth. It's economic and population growth are significantly above Memphis. Memphis is a legacy city, with culture and a legacy reputation, but it's not even growing as fast as some Midwestern metros like Grand Rapids. Memphis has been stagnant for a couple decades while Jacksonville has strong potential to be the next "It" city. Even if you take away the beach it's still not a fair comparison.

Not really. It's considered one of the "big 4." It's a major economic force in the state. It has pro sports franchises, large universities, major bank offices, large seaports, etc.
Afterthoughts in FL would be Tallahassee and Fort Myers -- not Jacksonville.

Jacksonville can be hit by hurricanes, but it is not on the typical storm track. By the time most Atlantic storms reach Jacksonville's longitude, they are recurving toward the north and northeast. So a storm that impacts Jacksonville would most likely have hit lower on the peninsula and be on a recurve over land or just off the coast and not at peak intensity. Of course, there are always exceptions to the typical, and a hurricane could, on an atypical path with an atypical pattern, come roaring into Jacksonville directly.

They've had a couple of close calls in recent years with storms passing just offshore, but the city was on the west/weaker side of the center.

I'm counting 6-4-2 Jacksonville on these categories it's much closer than it seems but just picking a place to live I'm picking Jacksonville over Memphis everytime.
