I have been spending tons of time in Indianapolis lately. The city has really become quite the hipster spot and its neighborhoods are wayyy underrated on CD. I disagree with it being this high but any thoughts on these rankings? Ditto OKC. Surprised to see Jax there.

How come Boise, ID didn't top this list?

It's relative. Since most Yelp ratings are by locals, these rate how locals feel about their trendy areas. Indy may have areas that are very trendy compared to the rest of Indy, but those areas probably wouldn't rate as highly if they were located in the Bay Area or Chicago.

This.

I've not been to Indianapolis recently at all, and it's been probably since 2008 or 09 when I was there last.

But, "trendiness" is totally relative to the specific area. I'm sure there are a lot of cool, nice neighborhoods in Indianapolis.

But is Indianapolis setting trends that people in Chicago, San Francisco, Austin, Atlanta, Nashville, Boston, Seattle, Portland and New York City follow? Probably less than a 1% chance.

Trendy spots in cities typically occur on the coasts, and filter into the south, the west, the midwest, plains, etc, several years after they were unique to those areas.

This is the more relevant map from the article IMO. Total number of "trendy locations" per capita.

It looks more like how you'd expect, with coastal cities dominating.

as with any ranking / list, you need to read the methodology first.

this is based on the top 50 cities in the US (not metros) in terms of population, with the top 5 (NYC, LA, CHI, HOU, PHX) excluded.

Indy trendy? Not sure about that. Was there for the first time a few weeks ago driving from Chicago to Cinci.

Cincinnati seemed substantially more urban trendy than Indy.

Indianapolis is not trendy at all. That's neither good nor bad. But I don't know what planet you're living on where Indianapolis is trendy.
