DC has a fair number gems but the general food scene is incredibly overrrated and overpriced for what you get. I couldn't care less about the number of Michelin restaurants.
Agree. Fine dining is one facet of what makes a fantastic food city. The singular fixation from some on here is odd (looking at Geoff's recent post).

I generally agree with those ranking NYC, Chicago, San Fran, Philadelphia, and Houston as exceptional food / dining cities. Plenty of other contenders, but I feel these are the least disputable among the largest cities.

(And thank-you for using the term "couldn't care less" correctly )

DC has good "mid-tier dining" IIMO but I'm also coming from Boston so the price doesn't shock me. Baltimore should be on this list. Overall I think its as good as DC and one of my favorite aspects of the city and things that surprised me most in moving here.
