If you are single, childless professional who is 100% work from home employee (regardless of the pandemic), and could move to one of the 5 cities in the poll, which would you select?

I chose Raleigh , but I'd pick Atlanta If it meant the outskirts of the city too. I personally don't want to live in a predominantly black area, would rather it be equal between all races, but also want to be close to the mountains.

Tough call, but I’d lean towards Nashville.

I'd rank them like this, based on the OPs criteria:

5 Richmond: smaller, growing decently, historic
4 Raleigh: growing well, lots of good bars/restaurants, young professional magnet
3 Charlotte: growing well, good sized city with lots to do, strong professional population with financial HQs
2 Nashville: booming city with tons to keep a single person occupied, growing economy and great bar/food scene
1 Atlanta: largest by far on this list. Many, many options and more of everything to offer. I'd recommend inside 285, the neighborhoods are diverse, and many are fast-improving as hotspots for trendy options for young professionals

Those are all solid cities. For a childless professional I would choose Nashville then Atlanta. For someone with young children I would choose Raleigh.

Atlanta (metro) has a better connected network than the other cities. I'd stay outside the 285.

Definitely Atlanta. If you will be traveling by plane to different cities, the direct flights out of Atlanta can’t be beat by any of the other cities. Atlanta is also the best centrally located city, so if you need to travel to other cities in the SE, East Coast and/or Mid West by car then Atlanta is your place. You are only 4 hours away from the beach (Savannah area) and 5 hours to some of the best beaches in The US (Florida panhandle). Also you will only be an hour away from some beautiful mountains that provide a plethora of out door activities.

I moved to the charlotte area in 2019. It is an OK city but I sure do miss the diversity, the openness of the people, the restaurants, the huge and beautiful skyline, the huge metro area (different things all over the metro such as concerts, parks, etc.), the direct flights, the ease of accessing other cities by car, the Dekalb Farmer’s Market, the shopping, the plethora of activities every weekend, the youthfulness, the hillier terrain, and the beauty of the Atlanta metro. No other metro in the south comes close to Atlanta in what it provides. You don’t realize what you’ve had until you no longer have it.
