Just to clarify I didn’t mean to suggest that Florida doesn’t have its share of industries. It’s just that the overall state economy seems more dependent on tourism (which doesn’t pay high enough to meet with the rising costs for many lower income residents) than say California. Definately agree that Florida has the better business environment but they don’t seem to give their residents the same benefits. In California residents were given a fourth stimulus check and they seem to want to take care of the homeless. Very important with the Covid situation

I would not consider a fourth stimulus check to be, at all, indicative of a good economic climate. If anything, it puts the state that much more in debt, so would be a negative IMO.

On the contrary, the stimulus is due to California's $75B surplus, the biggest state-level tax surplus in US history.
Sacramento is much more fiscally sound than DC is with a far smaller debt-to-gdp ratio. Actually.
It’s based on the tax burden not surplus. California is a heavy tax burdensome state. It’s the most socialist state in the US following more of a European model. Works for Europe but the US not so much.
Cost of Living (seems like southern FL is right up there with LA now): Tied
Quality of life: Tied
Healthcare: Tied
Safety: Tied
Social safety net (very important now with Covid): SoCal by a mile. Rick De Santis is a disgrace and his Covid response has literally killed people.
Culture/Fun: Tied
Agreed except on the healthcare point and beaches. SoCal - much better healthcare (UCLA and UCSD Health systems). S.FL - better beaches - the water is actually warm for a much longer period of time.
I realize I should have posted in this forum. I know this this topic has been looked at so many times before, but I am considering how both areas compare now with the impact of Covid. So much has changed, yet both areas are still two of the most desirable locations in the U.S. Thoughts???

Schools: Southern California. Hands down. Florida is not exactly known for it's amazing school system.
Economy/Job Market: South Florida. Florida booms and busts, but right now it is booming.
Cost of Living: South Florida. Southern California is ridiculously expensive. South Florida is unfortunately heading that way too, but for now it still beats SoCal.
Quality of life: South Florida. Hands down. There is a reason so many people keep moving to Florida.
Healthcare: Tie. The US healthcare system doesn't seem to vary that much state to state. It really only varies by urban / rural.
Safety: Tie. They both have their good pockets and bad pockets.
Social safety net: Southern California. Hand down. California is practically socialist with its welfare state and strong unemployment benefits etc. Florida's safety net, or lack thereof, is not very good.
Culture/Fun: South Florida. Hands down. Florida is known as a place where people go to have a good time. California is known as a place where woke hipsters go to feel offended by everyone and everything.
I'm a fan of both. Live in Miami, vacationing right now in SoCal lol. SoCal is winning at the moment (as it always does during every visit) but that's of course cause I'm on vacation
I won't go through the criteria, but I'll just offer that I believe the middle class lifestyle is far more affordable in South FL. If you're fortunate enough to be middle class.
South Florida likely has a better quality of life for the average person. Southern California has gotten quite expensive and you’ll need $$$ to live well there.
I prefer the climate in SoCal though, the heat/humidity in Florida is oppressive and tough to get acclimated to.
South Florida has excellent Cuban restaurants (some of my favorite cuisine), while SoCal has excellent Mexican restaurants and various Asian cuisines.
