Petersburg is a pretty rough looking city, I'm not sure where you guys got these impressions. It's not a Gary or East St. Louis, but it's certainly not a Compton. Just stuck around downtown?

You can't tell me you drove down streets like this, or like this, or down a street like this and said to yourself "yeah, pretty run of the mill. Would never guess it'd be a bad town". It has some good bones, but it's obviously a derelict city and in need of proper investment. It's improving a little and they torn down a lot of dilapidated buildings and problematic corner/liquor stores, but still lots of work to do and was in worse shape 12 years ago when you went there.

Didn't drive but did ride around and there was a mall I remember there too, also been to Richmond.. those pics look like regular density areas that are a bit poorer, it never really stuck out as an 'active' type of place.. granted it's obv not a maybarry kind of town. Idk, the distinguishly bad areas usually have a certain element to the population and some of the small population towns like East St louis never jumped out as "bad" to me, just very bombed out homes, but I never saw a soul in east st louis. Petersburg remind me of like a Palmdale, Ca, where its more rundown but not really as "hood active" as say Compton... thats why these murder rates are perplexing. But also I don't live there so idk if Petersburg is one of those places with 40 dudes outside acting crazy and the murder rate is saying it do, so that's just a view from a visitor on the surface.

Milwaukee would be one of the cities like Compton where you sometimes see big gang activity outside.

Milwaukee had three homicides the other night.

Milwaukee may just finish on par with or ahead of St Louis and Baltimore for homicide rates this year.

10 for MTL, compared to ~8 last year. Really don't like the recent trend of homicides raising YoY, really missing the days of low 20s yearly.
