It also seems like Philadelphia's gun violence is becoming even more concentrated in North Philly neighborhoods based on recent reports. I'd be interested in seeing statistics compared to prior years, but I wouldn't be surprised if North Philly neighborhoods were driving all of the violence increases in the past few years citywide. That section of the city is just off-the-charts with shootings/violence. It absolutely is crying out for a dramatic intervention, and it needed it yesterday.

It's amazing how Juniata always remains relatively safe while surrounded by some of the most violent sections of the city

Old data of homicides & shooting victims from 2014-2020 by the Trace.org for certain cities in Mississippi. There's definitely a margin of error moreover on the lack of data collecting & sharing from the municipalities ( especially Delta towns).
Left- Homicides / Right- Shot Victims

Jackson, MS : 510 / 938
Meridian, MS: 82 / 223
Gulfport, MS : 64 / 107
Hattiesburg, MS : 58 / 149
Natchez, MS : 50 / 72
Vicksburg, MS: 49 / 123
Greenville,MS : 45 / 52 *

* - Greenville should be much higher and comes back to data collecting, sharing, & transparency.

A couple of people have asked me if they could bring up in this thread yesterday's massacre at the Uvalde, Texas elementary school. There are multiple threads discussing that in the Politics and Other Controversies forum which, unfortunately, is where this type of discussion belongs since it will ultimately devolve into shouting wars and diatribes over politics.

Rather than aim, could be caliber of weapons used (New Orleans is called "Chopper City" for a reason..) or the means of attack. N.O is particularly known for its high amount of headshot cases and close-up ambushes with high powered rifles. Little chance of survival.

Despite the high ratio, N.O doesn't have the highest non-fatal shooting rate in the country; which Chicago had a higher rate in 2021 at 133.8/100k and New Orleans at 121/100k.

Detroit - 166/100k
Philly - 110.3/100k
Baltimore - 124/100k
Milwaukee - 147/100k

For reference, NYC had a non-fatal shooting rate of 21/100k and LA had 35.9/100k.

New Orleans infamous name might be embellish. Yes there plenty of cases of semi-auto to fully auto rifles used in different skirmishes between cliques & individuals. Yet majority of the firearms related homicides were handguns like everywhere else.
