Here's a few updates

Memphis (114)/ rate 17
Baltimore (143)/ rate 24
New Orl. (120)/ rate 30
St. Louis. (70)/ rate 23
The rates in both Baltimore and St. Louis will probably be higher than the rate in New Orleans by year's end, because, unlike a lot of cities, the hotter it gets, the slower the pace.

1970 - 100 (16.9)
1971 - 116 (19.7)
1972 - 163 (27.8)
1973 - 208 (35.7)
1974 - 199 (34.4)
1975 - 158 (27.5)
1976 - 170 (29.7)
1977 - 173 (30.4)
1978 - 216 (38.2)
1979 - 242 (43.1)

I mean, I guess it's an improvement based upon the current state; but damn they set the bar low if this is considered "decent". Those Bmore numbers are still very violent even back for its time period.
During the 1970's, the annual rates in Atlanta made those in New Orleans look pedestrian.

The city’s murder rate of 52.7 per 100,000 was the highest for any big American city (as it has been for six of the last seven years),” Fliess reported in the Sept. 6 Journal.

“A total of 368 murders (were) reported for the year in the 15-county metropolitan area of an estimated 1,686,000 persons,” the article continued. “That gave the Atlanta area a murder rate of 21.8 per 100,000 residents — highest of all the 221 areas (of one million or more population) participating in the FBI’s uniform crime reporting program.”

Portsmouth getting hectic. A quadruple shooting leaves 3 dead, 1 in critical condition in the Prentis Park area today and also a shooting in the Cradock area left a man dead yesterday. That brings them to 16 for the year.

JPD says a man, who has not been identified, was found inside a burned vehicle with a gunshot wound to his back.

Two people were seen running from the vehicle, police say./

The second deadly incident happened on Fleetwood Drive, near Cooper Road. JPD says Terrencia Jackson, 26, was shot multiple times while lying in her bed. ( her boyfriend was shot too and unknown condition)

Jackson, MS - 64

Just to note -- you used the "13A Aggravated Assault Firearms" metric instead of the "Victims Shot" metric, which is 90 as opposed to 131 for a rate of 39.7/100k. The rate was suspiciously high on that list so I had to double check for myself.

Thank you, nice catch.

Petersburg's rate was ridiculously high; possibly highest in the state.
100/100k or 10/1k
