Wonder why its so hard for cities to keep utd stats.

Good God New Orleans is really bad. If they maintain their current pace for the rest of the year, they will end up with a homicide rate of 72. But of course, the rate of homicides pick up substantially during the months of June-September, so they'll probably end up with a homicide rate on par with 2020 St Louis, or they'll duplicate their own 1994 homicide rate. Utterly demonic.
St Louis and Baltimore looking terrible as always, but that's just the status quo for them. Baltimore seemingly on track to end up slightly worse than the status quo.
Memphis actually used to not be that bad- they used to have a homicide rate below 30. Now, 45-50 seems to be their "new normal."
In terms of homicides/shootings/violent crime, I would put Memphis, St Louis, Birmingham, Detroit, Baltimore and New Orleans in the top tier for major US cities.

Memphis Baltimore and New Orleans are high because the fatality rate is high. If we go off total amount of shootings, Detroit has the highest rate with 167/100k , Philadelphia 145/100k and New Orleans, Chicago and Baltimore <130/100k

Baltimore needs to get back to where they were in the 70's and 80's..New Orleans was decent in the 70's also

I think you mean the 60's. Only 71-72 was decent in New Orleans, after that it was pretty much the beginning of everything we see there today. The 70's was the most murderous decade in recorded history in the US, so I would caution using it as a reference...

I'd agree that using shooting rate is more indicative of overall gun violence rather than homicides which is more nuanced.

It’s a much better indication. Unfortunately most PD don’t track non fatal shootings so we’re stuck with using homicides.
Nobody would imagine Milwaukee having a higher rate (152/100k) than New Orleans, Memphis, Baltimore, Chicago and Philadelphia
